Calvin Johnson Attends Miami Training Camp, Twitter Reacts

Calvin Johnson was at training camp this morning, but it wasn’t in a city that many expected. Photos of Johnson, who retired from football last year, at Monday morning’s Miami Dolphins practice only fueled rumors that the former Lions wide receiver isn’t done playing football.

Johnson, 31, spent his entire NFL career playing for the Detroit Lions. Last summer, he announced that he’d be leaving the NFL because he was “fed up” with football.

“I wouldn’t just quit because we were losing. It was just body. I was just tired of it, fed up. Just had enough,” he said, according to SB Nation. The Lions have since reached out to Johnson, hoping to make amends, but he hasn’t been open to connecting with them.

Over the weekend, ESPN confirmed that Jay Cutler had signed a one-year deal with Miami. The former Chicago Bears quarterback announced his retirement a couple of months ago, and took on a gig working as a game analyst for Fox Sports. However, he quickly changed his mind about playing, and inked a deal with Miami that will net him $10 million, plus up to $3 million in incentives.

Now, many football fans seem to think that Johnson will come out of retirement if he’s offered a deal — and it looks like he might be thinking about moving to south Florida to make that a reality.

It didn’t take long for fans to come up with hilarious memes and post them on Twitter. All of the chatter surrounding Johnson’s future in the game made his name a trending topic today.

The Dolphins have not made any kind of deal with Johnson at this time, but many suspect that an offer will be on the table by the end of the week.
