Rich Swann Domestic Violence Incident: WWE Suspends Wrestler After Arrest

Gainesville Police DepartmentRich Swann mugshot.

Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely by the WWE following an arrest Saturday night in Gainesville, Florida. Swann was arrested and held in jail on charges of battery and false imprisonment (kidnapping).

An arrest report released by the Gainesville Police Department said that Swann and his wife, Su Yung (Vannarah Riggs) of Shine Wrestling, got into an argument while he was driving. The report said that Yung had just wrestled at an independent show in the downtown area, and Swann was critiquing her performance. Suddenly, they got into an argument, and when she “got scared that the argument was going to escalate,” she jumped out of the vehicle Swann was driving. He allegedly screamed and chased after Yung, trying to get her back into the car, but she told him she had no desire to, two witnesses corroborated in their statements to police. Swann allegedly grabbed Yung by her arm and then put her into a headlock, dragging her back to the vehicle.

One witness told police that Yung was pounding on the window inside the vehicle screaming for help as they drove away, adding that she seemed “very afraid” of Swann.

Swann told police that he never grabbed her, and that she got into the vehicle on her own. He allegedly said that Yung had GPS on her phone, so he needed her to come back in the car.

Swann and Yung have been married for nine months after being in a romantic relationship for about five years.

Hours after the incident, the WWE announced that it had suspended Swann because of its “zero tolerance policy.”

“WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, and per our policy, Rich Swann has been suspended indefinitely following his arrest,” a WWE representative told Pro Wrestling Sheet’s Ryan Satin.

The WWE’s Domestic Violence policy from their corporate website says that upon arrest, superstars will be suspended. If the superstar is convicted of the charges, he or she would be terminated “immediately.”

WWE has zero tolerance for matters involving domestic violence, child abuse and sexual assault. Upon arrest for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately suspended. Upon conviction for such misconduct, a WWE talent will be immediately terminated. WWE’s ability to fine, suspend or terminate a WWE talent will not be, however, limited or compromised in any manner in the event incontrovertible evidence of such illegal misconduct is presented to WWE. Section 9.13(a) of the WWE booking contract, commonly known as the “morals clause”, provides WWE with broad discretion and authority to act under such circumstances.
