While Vasyl Lomachenko vs Guillermo Rigondeaux is considered the fight of the night, and potentially the year, there’s another compelling bout that demands your attention on Saturday, as Orlando Saldido–the only man to defeat Lomachenko at the professional level–takes on Miguel Roman at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.

The main card (which also features Francisco Vargas vs Stephen Smith and Tevin Farmer vs Kenichi Ogawa) is scheduled to start at 10 p.m. ET/PT and will be broadcast on HBO. If you don’t have cable or can’t get to a TV, you can watch HBO online, on your phone or on another streaming device via one of the following cable-free, live-TV streaming services. They cost a monthly fee but all come with a free trial, so you can watch tonight’s fights at no cost:

Though Salido has struggled since his win over Lomachenko, going 2-1-2 with a draw against Francisco Vargas and a loss and draw against Roman Martinez, he could still potentially get another fight against Lomachenko, who has quickly transformed into one of the biggest starts in the world. Lomachenko reportedly wants a rematch against Salido, and while it would surely be a massive payday for Salido due to Lomachenko’s rising stardom, promoter Bob Arum doesn’t believe it will happen.

“After this fight on December 9, against Rigondeaux, we will make another offer to Salido for the rematch with Lomachenko,” Arum said. “I think that Salido is not very anxious to fight against Lomachenko, because every time we have proposed the fight, he answers us with some number [for his purse] and we agree on what his purse will be, and then he comes back asking for more money. … I don’t think he has the desire to get in a ring with Lomachenko – that’s his problem.”

Whether a rematch with Lomachenko looms or not, Salido has to get through Miguel Roman first. “Mickey” has won 19 of his last 20 fights but has yet to really face someone of Salido’s quality, and as such, Salido stands as the betting favorite. Nevertheless, Salido isn’t overlooking his opponent.

“I know that this fight against Roman is difficult and I am confident it will be a war because our styles are very similar and it will be a real train wreck,” said Salido. “I am very satisfied with my preparation and I feel very good, this is an important fight because winning could lead me to a championship fight and that is the motivation for this fight, because I would like to compete for the World Boxing Council World Championship (WBC) against Miguel Berchelt.”

Salido was originally scheduled to face WBC super featherweight champ Miguel Berchelt in this fight, but Berchelt pulled out due to a right hand injury. If Salido looks good on Saturday night, though, that matchup should be back on, likely sometime around February.
