A person claiming to be an insider working on the software for the Xbox 720 says the Xbox 720 will not require an “always-on” connection to function. In addition, the source says the recent specs from VGLeaks are correct.

The source posted the inside scoop in a Pastebin post addressed to NeoGaf member Chesemeister. The source doesn’t give away his or her identity, but gives information on the Kinect 2.0 and says the Xbox 720 will run on Windows 8.

The source stated both models of the Xbox 720 will run on the full version of Windows 8. It will run new WinRT framework which source says is “Indie friendly.”

When it comes to the “always-on” Internet connection the source said “You are not required to be connected to the internet in order to play Durango games and MS were NEVER considering doing such a thing. Now please, just read that last sentence over and over again until it sinks in. Done? Good.”

Microsoft is still planning to announce the new Xbox in May-around the rumored date of May 21st.

When it comes to Kinect 2.0 the source said everything VGLeaks said about its new motion bar are true “quite substantial increase in the hardware over Kinect 1.0, any humanly noticeable lag should be gone.”

Also, the source says the Xbox controller will have an improved D-pad that’s similar to the Xbox 360’s, but will feel different and will run on AA batteries. The console will also come with a set of VR glasses says the source.

Rumors surrounding the Xbox mini are also true, according to the source.

What do you think? Do you think the source will be right?
