How to Download iOS 7 Beta 2 on Your iPad 1, 2, 3, 4, and iPad Mini

Apple released iOS 7 Beta 2 for developers and Apple enthusiasts earlier today and now, you can use it on your iPad and iPad Mini. Here’s how you can download iOS 7 for your Apple tablet.

Note: Remember to always back up your device before you restore or install a beta version of iOS.

1. Download the IPSW File

The IPSW file is the actually data that make up Apple’s mobile operating system. There are essentially two different ways you can download the iOS 7 IPSW file earlier than the public release: buy a developers license through Apple for $99 per year, or go to your favorite torrent site and see if there is a copy there.

It’s important to note that downloading torrent files may be considered illegal depending on where you live. Do so at your own risk.

Also make sure you find the right version as well. Here’s what I wrote before about downloading iOS 7 Beta 1 for your iPhone:

[You need to]…find the correct iOS 7 build for your phone and carrier. Make sure to check the comments section; some of them could be filled with bugs that will brick your iPhone. Then, download the torrent and make sure it’s an .ipsw file (otherwise it won’t work).

2. Install the File

It’s a pretty easy process to set up your iPad or iPad Mini to run iOS 7. You have to connect your iPad to your computer and open up iTunes, where you should see a button that says “Check For Updates.” Hold “Option” and click on Check for Updates (if you’re using Windows, it’s shift+click). Find the IPSW file, double click and the process should start automatically.

And that’s it! If you have any issues, or find any bugs/glitches/hidden features, send me an email at ian@heavy.com or leave a comment!
