What if There was a Custom, Modular and Environmentally Friendly Phone?

There could be. On the website Thunderclap, a crowd-speaking site dedicated to getting a message heard based on how many supporters it has, something called Phoneblok has met its goal, which means it could become a reality.

Now, Phoneblok is essentially a cellular phone that is modular, which means that you can customize and change your phone based around your needs. For instance, suppose you want your phone to have an amazing camera, but you never use speaker phone, and so you don’t need one. Using the Phoneblok system, you could purchase the proper “blocks,” and have a phone without a speaker, and with a much larger, better camera. This has two benefits: one, you only pay for the blocks you want. And two, if you ever need to change something on your phone, you don’t need to go out and buy a whole new phone. You can just upgrade that component. It’s a pretty awesome idea and we’ll have to see what comes out of the project.

Oh, and we forgot to mention, it’s really good for the environment, since old phones normally get thrown away, sometimes with many useful, valuable pieces. With a Phoneblok, however, you’ll only have to get rid of the component that needs replacing. Check out the video below.

If you like the idea, and want to show the world a phone worth keeping, support the campaign on Thunderclap. No message will be shared until the project has ended and met its goal (it already has though!)
