Amazon Prime membership just increased from $79.99/year to $99/year. If you want to get around this price hike, there are a couple of options available to you.
1. Amazon Prime Student Discount Policy
don't tell amazon, but I'm somehow still getting the student rate – Amazon Prime price jumping to $99 in the US http://t.co/km2NPxvCly

If you’re a student, you shouldn’t be paying full price for Amazon Prime anyway. Amazon Student is an Amazon program that gives you free two-day shipping and special deals. Amazon Student members also get 50% off Amazon Prime, enabling them to watch streaming videos and borrow Kindle books.
Amazon Student members get a $10 credit for each friend they refer, so if you keep referring friends, you can pay practically nothing for your Amazon Prime account.
2. Leverage Your Friend’s Amazon Prime ‘Invitees’
The Amazon Prime Terms & Conditions read as follows:
“If you sign up for a free trial or paid Prime membership, you may invite up to four eligible household members (living at the same address) to enjoy the shipping benefits of your free trial or paid Prime membership at no extra cost (invitees)…
If you purchase a Prime membership as a small business, you may invite up to four co-workers to shop with this corporate account. An invitee’s shipping benefits will automatically terminate if the purchaser of the membership ceases to be a member or removes the invitee.”
In other words, if someone you live with or work with has an Amazon Prime account, you can cancel yours and link to their Prime account instead.
3. Join Amazon Mom
New Amazon Mom members who haven’t used Amazon Prime in the past can get 3 months of Prime for free. On top of streaming videos and expedited shipping, Amazon Mom members also get 20% off diapers, baby wipes, and “family essentials.”
4. Ask For an Amazon Prime Gift Membership
You can’t use Amazon.com gift cards to sign up for Prime. However, if you’ve got a birthday or anniversary coming up, someone can buy you a gift membership. Recipients of these gift memberships don’t have to enter any credit card info to activate their membership.
