iOS 8 Rumors: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

The image above seems to suggest that WWDC 2014 will feature the debut of iOS 8. For sites like Business Insider, that image is enough to serve as definitive proof. If you’re drooling at the thought of a shiny new OS, here are five things you should know about Apple’s upcoming iOS update.

1. iOS 8 Expected to Debut at WWDC 2014

iOS 8 is expected to be unveiled at WWDC 2014, Apple’s worldwide developer’s conference. iOS 8 may include some of the following rumored features: improved Siri functionality, a new app called Healthbook, improved maps, and payment integrations. Additionally, iOS 8 is expected to have a new look.

2. iOS 8’s Healthbook App Expected to Have Fitness Focus

Apple met with the FDA last year, and has also made some interesting hires of people who previously worked in the health industry. The iOS 8 Healthbook app, paired with persistent rumors about an iWatch, seem to suggest that Apple may be laying the groundwork for a fitness monitoring system that is more robust than their competitors.

3. iPad 2 & iPhone 4 Will Not Get iOS 8 Update

In the episode of the Two Blokes Talking Tech podcast above, the blokes chat about Apple and WWDC.

According to Know Your Mobile, iOS 8 will not be compatible with some older Apple products, such as the iPad 2 and the iPhone 4. For users of these older devices, the delights of iOS 8 will be tantalizingly out of reach…and Apple probably hopes that the allure of iOS 8 will make these older device users upgrade to newer tech.

4. Apple Users Are Opinionated About What Features Should Be Added to iOS 8

The CNET video above outlines some things we can expect to see in iOS 8.

Macworld recently put together a list of features that Apple fans are dying to see in iOS 8. Among these top-requested features are a customizable control center, enhanced Siri learning capabilities, AirDrop add-ons, and keyboard customization. The latter could be key: LG’s G3 recently got techies salivating over its clever keyboard features.

With so many user demands, it’s unlikely that iOS 8 will be able to please everybody.

5. iOS 8 May Be Missing a Cool Feature on Release Date

The TechRadar video above makes some interesting observations about iOS 8.

Gotta Be Mobile notes that one cool iOS 8 feature may not be ready for WWDC. That feature: split-screening for the iPad.

Gotta Be Mobile writes:

“The feature supposedly won’t be limited to just stock iOS apps either. Apple will apparently allow developers to give their apps this ability.

While the feature is thought to be coming with iOS 8 later on this year, it may not be ready in time for Monday’s launch. According to Brian X. Chen from The New York Times, the feature isn’t ready and is still in development behind the scenes. And because of that, it won’t be shown off on stage during the iOS 8 launch event.”
