When it comes to weather apps on the Google Play Store and App Store, you have a few apps to choose from such as AccuWeather, WeatherBug and Weather Underground. We’ve decided to compare two of the most popular weather apps, Yahoo Weather and The Weather Channel, to see which will provide you with the most accurate weather forecasts.
1. Yahoo Weather vs. The Weather Channel: Getting Started
Yahoo Weather provides information on current conditions, forecasts and severe weather. While you don’t need to be a Yahoo user to access the weather, you do need to register if you want more personalized weather forecasts. You will need to provide Yahoo Weather app with your postal code or city and location so the app can display current weather for your city. When you’re logged in, the app will display weather information for all of the locations you selected. To add locations, simply tap the ‘+’ and enter the city or zip code you’re looking for.
If you’re already signed up with a service or product on weather.com, you don’t need to worry about registering again to view weather details. By tapping on the ‘+’ you can easily add your current location or any location you want to see detailed forecasts. You can also add your city or postcode by entering it in the search bar on the top of the app. You will be able to access all of your saved locations. To receive pollen alerts and severe weather alerts, just select your location.
2. Yahoo Weather vs. The Weather Channel: Features
The Yahoo! Weather App integrates beautiful images from Flickr that displays the current local weather conditions, and details about the forecast. You can choose up to 20 locations from around the world, and scroll through your favorite places. By tapping the temperature you can easily see the precipitation, wind and pressure, a radar map, etc.
While the Weather Channel doesn’t integrate with a photo service like Flickr, the app still provides beautiful images that you can scroll through. A new “Social Weather’ feature lets you submit weather in your current location that makes forecasts more accurate. When a storm is on the way, the app will help you stay safe during the storm. You’ll know when a storm is on its way, when the app completely redesigns itself.
3. Yahoo Weather vs. The Weather Channel: User Interface
Yahoo Weather has an impressive and beautiful user interface that integrates minimalist design. You can see accurate 5-day and 10-day forecasts, browse interactive maps and get details for precipitation, wind and pressure. You can easily edit locations, display weather for your current location and see your favorite places. Customizing settings allow you to change the temperature from fahrenheit to celsius and select the different wind speeds: mph, km/h, m/s and knots.
The Weather Channel recently redesigned their mobile app’s interface. By tapping on the circle in the middle of the main screen, you can see current temperature. By swiping down, you can see ‘feels like’, details like wind, dewpoint, humidity, visibility, pressure, UV index, and sunrise and sunset times. The app also provides forecasts so you can see hourly and 10 day forecasts. Localized maps offer updates on storms and tornado. The app lets you select road, satellite and hybrid views. One of the major features is the ability to see the pollen index, which is not currently offered by Yahoo Weather.

Even though Yahoo Weather is one of the top weather apps, with the recent updates and new features, the Weather Channel now offers one of the hottest weather apps for iOS and Android users. All members can easily swipe through beautiful images, and see detailed weather forecasts. The user interface makes it easy to find what you’re looking for, so you can easily plan your day.
