iOS 9.3 Night Shift vs. Flux

night shift vs flux on ios 9.3

How does the new Night Shift feature work on iOS 9.3? How does it compare to F.lux?

If you’re wondering exactly how the iOS 9.3 Night Shift feature will work, F.lux is a good comparison point. Flux is used on computers to lower the display brightness as the day draws to a close and change the tint to reduce eye strain, especially when you’re working shortly before going to sleep. Night Shift has the same purpose.

According to iOS 9.3 beta testers on Reddit, Night Shift is very comparable to F.lux. In fact, one beta tester said that if Night Shift was ever available on his computer, he would switch to using it instead of F.lux.

Night Shift automatically shifts the color temperature of your screen throughout the day, gradually reducing the amount of blue light so you have less eye strain as daylight ends. Reducing blue light at night can help you fall asleep faster too, 9to5Mac reported.

One beta tester noted that Night Shift and F.lux seemed to be about the same tint, but Night Shift was less visibly noticeable. However, he added, the screen with Night Shift still felt too bright to use while lying in bed right before going to sleep, even on its lowest setting. Fortunately, Night Shift does not seem to put a huge drain on the iPhone’s battery.

You can go into Settings and enable Night Shift to turn on and off automatically with the sunrise and sunset. You can also set specific times manually if you prefer.
