A saucepan can do much more than make a delicious sauce. For example, many are also useful for cooking with beans and grains. You can also use this type of pan to reheat pasta sauce or soup. Many saucepans feature a nonstick coating to make cooking and cleanup easier. You’ll also find pans made with cast iron, stainless steel, and copper. Some pans come with features such as a clear lid for keeping track of your meal or self-basting lids with ridges to trap moisture and flavors for delicious end results.

Size is also important. Many saucepans range from 2.5 to 3 quarts, although you can find ones that are larger or smaller. Keep in mind how much food you tend to make at once, and whether you’re just cooking for yourself or an entire family. While larger saucepans are useful for making more food at once, they are also heavier and can be harder to store than smaller pans. If you have an induction cooktop, check before buying to ensure that it’s safe for induction cooking. Those who often place pans in the oven should make note of whether the saucepan is oven safe.

If this list doesn’t have the right saucepan for you, browse a wider selection of saucepans on Amazon to see more options.

  1. Farberware, T-Fal, and Woll Nowo … Don’t they have a single screw that keeps the handles fastened? This isn’t a good feature, and is a deal-killer for me. If they have a single screw, they shouldn’t be on the list, as you have to keep tightening the screw only after you discover that the handle is loose, which is usually when you’re moving a hot batch of beans or sauce!
