Sumosonic Spotlight: Major Lazer

So you’ve had a chance to check out Sumosonic, right? You – you haven’t? What more impetus do you need to peep the latest tracks from some of today’s hottest breaking bands? Do I have to hold your hand and walk you over there? OK, I will. Let’s do this one at a time.

One of my favorite tracks in this batch is “Hold The Line” by Major Lazer. If you go by the Major’s PR material, he’s a Jamaican former Special Ops commando who lost his arms in the Great Zombie War and now fights monsters on a rocket-propelled hoverboard in between rocking parties behind the DJ decks. In reality, Major Lazer is formed from the unholy union of superstar producers Diplo (M.I.A, Hot Chip, more) and Switch (Bjork, Nine Inch Nails). Recorded at Jamaica’s legendary Tuff Gong Studios, their debut album Guns Don’t Kill People… Lazers Do is rife with dancehall sounds and sonic trickery. Pick it up as soon as your robotic arm will let you.
