Kind of a light week for games, good friends, but then it’s summertime, so you should all be outside showing off that tightly muscled body that Wii Fit gave you, right? If you’ve got a pony keg rather than a six-pack, here’s a few new games hitting this week that might help you forget your eternal despair.
Toy Story 3 – Pixar: good. Movie tie-in games: usually not so good. Sequels: also usually not so good. This third-person action adventure does look pretty sharp, though, giving you control of Buzz Lightyear and Woody in an adventure that promises not to spoil the upcoming film, which is probably a good idea.
Naval Assault: The Killing Tide – We’ve looked at World War II from just about all sides now, but as far as I know this is the first submarine-only game of the modern era. Set in the North Atlantic theater, get behind the wheel of a submarine and take out your aggression on ships on the surface and below in both single-player and multiplayer for up to four commanders.
Gundemonium Collection – If you’re not familiar with the insane shooting games from Japanese developer Platine Dispotif, here’s a quick and easy way to get up to speed on one of the coolest indie groups in the world. Gundemonium Recollection is a side-scrolling shooter with cutesy graphics but hellish difficulty, where you pilot a big-headed witch and just blast the living crap hell out of everything in your way. GundeadliGne continues the side-scrolling mayhem and adds new abilities, and Hitogata Happa switches to a vertically-scrolling playfield. Each game has gorgeous hand-drawn graphics and non-stop action.
100 Classic Book Collection – Screw a Kindle, read 100 public-domain books on your Nintendo DS with this odd little collection aimed, I suppose, at casual gamers and parents who don’t love their kids all that much.
