What’s New In Games This Week

Since all eyes are on E3 to see what the future of gaming has in store, it’s easy to forget what’s happening in the here and now. So maybe it’s another light week, but thankfully there’s two releases well worth the extra spotlight.

Infamous 2

Time once again to assume the mantle of just some regular dude that’s been granted/cursed with the power to both protect the city, as well as destroy it if one so chooses. The digs are different this time… this time you’re in New Marais, which has a Southern, Creole feel… but the same problems from before are back, better than ever. Specifically the return of The Beast. Upping the ante is how the thing that gave you the ability to shoot electricity originates – the Ray Sphere. New to the game as well is the ability to create your own missions and pass them along to pals! Add all the new powers and this is one game that you won’t be getting bored of anytime soon. PS3

Red Faction: Armageddon

As much as Infamous 2 sticks with the past, Red Faction: Armageddon does away much its history, opting something dramatically different. Aside from still being on Mars, much has changed. Instead of battling Earth for your freedom, a war that was waged years ago, and in which the red planet won its liberation (see: the previous game), it’s the very place you call home. The thing that kept the place habitable was damaged, forcing everyone to go underground, literally. Oh, one other thing that’s back are the wacky religious zealots, the Marauders, who trick the grandson of the heroes from Guerrilla (whose now a jack of all trades business type) into setting loose an ancient race of Martians. Got that? In addition to the change of adversary, gone is the open world gameplay, and in its place is something far more linear and mission based. Change can be good sometimes… hopefully this is one. PC, PS3, Xbox 360
