What’s New In Games This Week

It’s another big week for releases. First, we have one of the greatest games of all time made even better, via the miracle of 3D! Next, is the latest from a developer that has been enjoying cult status for some time now, and ready to make a splash on the big stage. And finally, the third chapter of one of the few games that tries to be scary and actually succeeds…

It’s here at long last, the third chapter of the ultimate marriage of horror and first person shooting. This time, the main good guy and main bad guy from the first chapter are back together and working together to stop their mom, who happens to be the reason why all paranormal hell has broken lose. In addition to the new co-op mode that drives the story along, there are several new multiplayer modes, with the highlight being “Fucking Run” (that’s seriously what it’s called) in which one must get away from the Wall of Death. Also along for the ride is legendary horror director John Carpenter doing cinematics and Steve Niles, one of hottest comic writers in recent years, overseeing the story. PS3, PC, Xbox 360

Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D

Is there any real need to explain anything here? Ocarina is widely acknowledged as Link’s finest adventure, period, and many players believe that it’s one of the best games ever created. Again, it’s the already groundbreaking and legit magical game from before, but with refined visuals, plus also in the 3D (duh). There’s also a host of other little improvements here and there, plus the Master Quest is included, which flips the scenery and makes everything even harder. For owners of 3DSs that have been asking why they bought one in the first place, your day has come. For those who have been happily living without one… sorry, but those days are over. Nintendo 3DS

Familiar with Grasshopper Manufacture? They make some of the craziest, most intense games around that hardly anyone knows about. Their last masterpieces, No More Heroes 1 & 2 were the best action games available for the years they came out, though being Wii titles, the right audience was never around. Well, Shadows of the Damned being their first “HD” game and all, this might be the chance for many to finally discover what the kooky little Japanese production company is all about. The plot is typical GhM fare: a demon hunter must enter Hell to find his true love. Oh, and along for the ride is a pal, also a demon, that serves as the dude’s light source, weapon, and sometimes ride. Along the way he encounters various foes that resemble masked Mexican wrestlers and his gf (in her underwear no less, except for the exploding head part), among other things. Did I mention that the creator of Resident Evil is also lending a hand in this? PS3, Xbox 360
