There’s a reason we all still love The Muppets. Though the show was only on CBS from 1976 to 1981, Elmo, Kermit, Miss Piggy, Oscar The Grouch and many others secured a silly space in our hearts. Besides being laugh-out-loud funny, with guests that included Steve Martin, Phyllis Diller and Madeline Kahn the show usually included a musical guest and Jim Henson and the producers were quite liberal about who that guest was: Alice Cooper (check out the video), Stevie Wonder, Lena Horne, Ben Vereen, Judy Collins, Loretta Lynn and Elton John to name a few, introducing us kids to all kinds of music.
Now, a tribute album is on its way. Muppets: The Green Album is a new collection of Muppet songs covered by OK Go, Andrew Bird, The Fray, Weezer, My Morning Jacket and more, and you can listen to the entire album streaming. AND the new Muppet movie is coming in November – have you seen the trailer yet?
