What’s New In Games This Week

It’s another week in which the classics are reborn, though it’s the game based on an up and coming franchise that’s the most curious entry. Either it’s playing it smart or real lazy, it’s hard to tell! At least the other games are no brainers when it comes to checking them out.

Last week we saw the definitive high point of the Resident Evil franchise, re-released with a HD sheen. Well, as part of Capcom’s continued celebration of its 15th birthday, time for either the second or third best installment, depending on whom you talk to. Released originally for the Dreamcast (and later ported to the PS2 and GameCube) this is the sometimes forgotten about installment that finally brought full 3D into the mix. Oh, and it also features without a doubt the hottest RE hottie of them all, Clair Redfield. And some annoying guy whose sorta supposed to resemble Leonardo DiCaprio. Xbox 360, PS3

 A Game of Thrones: Genesis

A game based upon the hit HBO series and series of books is hardly a surprise, thought the genre its exploring, that being strategy affair sort of is. One would naturally assume that those behind the game would go for a more, down and dirty, blood and guts in your face affair. Then again, having something basically resemble the opening credits (okay, not exactly) is also a wise move. And who knows, it could be just as ultra violent from a far as pulled in. Too bad no body knows at this point, which is always suspect – especially for a licensed game this close to release date. PC

Another Nintendo portable, another game of Tetris. Though to be honest, this one should have maybe been around, closer to the 3DS’s launch, since it could have definitely given it the boost that the original did for the o.g. Game Boy. Anyhow, timing issues aside, along with the fact that pretty much everyone’s cell phone has the original game, this new one brings plenty of new and good stuff to the table. Much like the one for the DS, there’s plenty of modes that takes advantage of the the whole 3D thing, but even in two dimensions, new modes like Tower Climber, Fit, and Stage Racer Plus look hella fun! 3DS

The ICO & Shadow of Colossus Collection

Time once again for even more PS2 classics to make return appearances on the PS3. But this compilation is a slightly different beast. Aside from the fact that many cited both Ico and Shadow of the Colossus as the perfect illustrations of video games also being art, back when the argument first started a couple of years ago, there’s a good chance that you perhaps may not have played either. Either due to the aforementioned debate scaring you off, or the heinous box art of Ico. But more than anything else, these two represent the best that Sony had to offer during their heyday, and now they’re back and but better than ever in glorious HD / 3D! There’s even some behind the scenes goodies for diehard fans. But still not convinced? Then simply wait for my review later this week! PS3
