I don’t think I’m alone on this, but for me the fall movie season is much more enticing than the summer blockbuster parade that rolls out each Memorial Day. Don’t get me wrong, I like my super hero movies and over the top sci-fi reboots as much as the next guy, but the fall movie season just seems to have a little more dirt under its nails. And with movies like Argo, Killer Joe, and End of Watch all rolling out this fall, autumn is going to see a lot of bullet shells and dead bodies.
Add to that list of dramas Killing Them Softly. The film revolves around Brad Pitt’s character of Jackie Cogan, a point man for the mob who starts an investigation after a series of heists crop up around mob-centered poker games. The movie’s based on the 1974 crime novel Cogan’s Trade by George V. Higgins and boast a strong cast of actors with Ray Liotta, James Gandolfini (who are no strangers to mob roles themselves) and Richard Jenkins.
The movie’s scheduled for release on October 19th and rounds out a nice crop of gritty dramas for the post-summer movie season. Step aside, Spidey and Batman, the fall is all about cops and robbers.
