The 10 Best Action Scenes From the Stars of The Expendables 2

The Expendables 2 once again brings together some of the best, aged action stars from today and yesteryear. If there’s an all-star game for leathery, AARP card-holding ass kickers, it would be called The Expendables. I have to admit, although it’s dairy-laden (read: CHEESY), there’s something fun and innocent about a bunch of hopelessly muscled stars, in their twilight, shooting off their AK-47’s as they inch closer towards retirement. Stallone’s nostalgic series doesn’t take itself seriously, that’s why the thing works.

Just because their joints are rickety and their eyesight waning, let’s not forget that these guys were jacked-up, bone-breaking ministers of mayhem in their prime.

Let’s take a trip down memory lane, the one covered with blood spatter, and gander upon these disciples of dangers’ finest cinematic melees.

He’s the relative baby of the bunch, his action career not launching into orbit until 2002’s The Transporter, where he made a turn as a driver for hire with some serious kickboxing skills. While the film is an over-the-top, slightly farcical take on the one-man army genre (aren’t they all these days?) it was Statham’s first big fight number and announced to the world that there was new ass-kicker in town.

This was an easy one, as Dolph’s Ivan Drago character in Rocky 4, was, and in many ways still is, the most genetically jacked-up villain ever to play on screen. Honestly, Lundren could have seriously considered a career in bodybuilding if he wasn’t so preoccupied with smacking Stallone around a boxing ring for a few hours. To this day, I contend that this is one of the better boxing scenes in all of cinema. Great tension and a great story told within the confines of the squared circle.
