‘Modern Family’ Star Ariel Winter Leaves Home, Says Mom Abuses Her

Ariel Winter

Ariel Winter plays witty 14-year-old Alex Dunphy, daughter of loving and quirky parents Phil and Claire Dunphy, but her real life parental situation is furthest from that which her television screen alter-ego has. Court sources told TMZ that a judge removed the actress from her home after allegations that her mother, Crystal Workman, physically and emotionally abuses her.

The judge placed Winter in the temporary guardianship of her sister, Shanelle Gray, after a guardianship hearing on October 3 and a restraining order on her mother who is to stay 100 yards away until a November 20 hearing. Winter’s sister alleges that Workman has “slapped, hit and Pushed Ariel, as well as abused her in the form of vile name calling and personal insults about [her and her weight].” Gray even says she suffered from the same abuse from their mother almost two decades ago.

But the actress’s mother told People that the claims are untrue

“It’s all untrue, it’s all untrue,” Workman says. “I have my doctor’s letter that my daughter’s never been abused. I have stylists’ letters that she’s never been abused.”

There was a report saying that Winter is seeking emancipation from her mother to be with her 18-year-old boyfriend, but those claims seem to be false.
