Toronto Boy’s Musical Bar Mitzvah Invite Goes Viral

A Toronto boy named Jorel Hoffert may have to worry about bar mitzvah crashers now that his musical Youtube invite has gone viral.

The son of David and Mei Lei Hoffert, young Jorel (who was named after Superman’s father) decided to skip the stuffy save the date cards and had his family help him create a musical mash-up of Queen and Psy’s Gangnam Style for his classmates and friends.

The three and a half minute video, which has nearly 200,000 views already, features Jorel, his parents and his grandparents singing about his upcoming bar mitzvah to the tune of Queen’s We Are The Champions.

Jorel’s father David told the Toronto Star he was surprised at the online reaction to the video.

It was just only intended for people who were invited to the bar mitzvah to see. Then two days ago, we woke up and saw it on one viral video site … And then it just exploded.

Jorel’s parents, who both helped with the ambitious production, are also musically inclined – David is a director and music producer who’s worked with the Beastie Boys and Mei Lei is a classically trained vocalist and opera instructor.
