For readers of the Song of Ice and Fire books, there is no such thing as a spoiler when it comes to HBO’s hit drama Game of Thrones. Sure, there are some changes made during the adaptation process from book to television, but for most of the plot, and the deaths, the show has been spot on.
For those of you looking to ruin Season 4 of Game of Thrones for yourselves, here are 10 huge events from the second half of book three, A Storm of Swords, and the first half of book four, A Feast for Crows, that are likely to be included in the upcoming season.
Warning: Do not look below unless you are really really ready to spoil the next (possibly two) seasons.
Here we go:
Last chance …
Point of no return …
Alright you asked for it …
1. Joffrey Is Poisoned & Dies at His Wedding
At his wedding to Margaery Tyrell, everyone’s most hated character, Joffrey Baratheon, chokes and dies after being poisoned. Joffrey’s uncle, Tyrion, and Tyrion’s young bride, Sansa Stark, are immediately accused of the crime and imprisoned.
This is going to happen very early in the season in episode two entitled, “The Lion and the Rose,” symbolizing the joining of house Lannister and the house Tyrell.
2. Catelyn Stark’s Body Is Reanimated
After her tragic death at the Red Wedding, Catelyn Stark’s body is reanimated and out for vengeance. Going by the name “Stoneheart,” she becomes a leader of the mysterious Brotherhood Without Banners who we were introduced to at the end of Season 3.
3. Arya Goes to Bravos to Become a Faceless Assassin
After crossing out a few people from her kill list, Arya uses the coin given to her by the faceless assassin Jaqen H’ghar. Arya is transported by ship to Bravos where she attempts to become a trained assassin.
4. Littlefinger Becomes Lord of the Vale
After fleeing King’s Landing, Littlefinger eventually marries Catelyn Stark’s weirdo sister. It only takes a little while before he throws her through the moon window and becomes the lord of the vale himself.
5. Tyrion Kills Tywin & Shae
After Jamie reveals that Tyrion’s first love wasn’t actually a prostitute as their father said, Tyrion flies into a rage. He walks into his father’s chambers only to find Shae, his ex, naked. He kills them both, ouch.
6. Jon Becomes Leader of the Night’s Watch
After a devastating attack by Mance Rader and his wildling army, Jon is appointing commander of the Night’s Watch, forsaking his opportunity to become the new lord of Winterfell.
7. Daenerys Finds Out Jorah Was a Spy
In Season 1, the show briefly alludes to Jorah Mormont’s feeding of information about Daenerys to King Robert Baratheon. This information finally comes to light and he is forced to preform a dangerous task in order to regain her trust.
8. Stannis Baratheon Travels to the Wall
Stannis, deciding that the true king of Westeros would defend his country above all else, leaves Dragonstone where he has been sulking and goes up to the wall. There he meets Jon Snow and offers him allegiance and Winterfell, should he want it.
9. Margaery & Cersei Battle it Out
After the death of Jeoffry, his wife Margaery and his mother Cersei continue to duke it out for influence over the city. Both hurl accusations of adultery at each other in order to send the other to prison.
10. Both Clegans Die
In a trail by combat, Oberyn Martell (a character who will be introduced in season 4) fights on behalf of Tyrion while Gregor Clegane fights for Cersei. In the battle Clegane is wounded mortally.
Meanwhile, very far away during a battle fighting alongside Arya, Sandor “The Hound” Clegane is also wounded. After his wounds get infected, Arya leaves him for dead.
