The series finale of the amazing How I Met Your Mother is finally upon us and fans are in an uproar trying to find out how the series with end. The Plot of The Last Episode
USA Today reports a big spoiler, revealing the entire plot of the finale episode:
Ted’s first meeting with the mother of his two children will be part of How I Met Your Mother’s one-hour series finale (CBS, Monday, 8 p.m. ET/PT). It follows the characters from 2013 to where this nine-season story got started, with future Ted (voiced by Bob Saget) talking to his kids in 2030.
Alyson Hanigan Gives Away Some Details
TV Line reports some spoilers from HIMYM star Alyson Hannigan:
There’s a curveball or two in store for Lily and Marshall. “There are a lot of answers to questions that you didn’t know you had — or never knew to ask,” previews Alyson Hannigan. “They really, definitely give the fans everything in the series finale.” Which character’s endgame surprised her the most? “Robin’s,” she responds. “Although I guess that’s not really a surprise, because it’s sort of been addressed in the past. You’ll see.” Hmmm …
Hanigan opened up to E! Online and dished on her feelings about the finale:
I laughed, I cried, and I was like, ‘How are we going to shoot this? I’m going to be a mess!’ But it was wonderful, and it was the perfect way to go out, and I’m so grateful that we got a season nine to end the show the way it should be. It deserved this ending.
HIMYM Staffers Discuss the Last Episodes’ Running Jokes
Co-creator Carter Bays revealed to USA Today that:
There’s been a bit of playing the bingo card of trying to hit all the beats we want to hit. The last two episodes are less about the running jokes of the show and more just about these characters and the reality of their lives.

Robin Sparkles May Return
E! Online reports on a possible return of Robin Sparkles, saying:
It’s a well-known fact that there will likely be riots in the streets if Robin Sparkles does not appear for one last memorable performance. Unfortunately, the creators were particularly cagey when asked if there were any more musical numbers coming this year. However, way back at the HIMYM Comic-Con panel last July, Thomas teased, “We can’t confirm nor deny but it’s a wedding and people sing songs at weddings.” We’re going to put on our jelly bracelets and our cool graffiti coat just in case, because we have a feeling we haven’t seen the last of our favorite Canadian pop star.
Director Pam Fryman Talks About the Last Minute of the Show
The show’s director Pam Fryman spoke with MStarz.com with a little teaser:
You’ll see what happens to everyone,’ she says. ‘We really tried to tie up every loose ending we could think of, answer every question we’ve asked and haven’t answered. It’s just very satisfying.’ Who’s in the last scene? Fryman’s lips are sealed, obviously, but she teases that ‘the last minute or so will really sit with you.’
What The Official Synopsis Reveals
The official synopsis of the last episode writes that Ted will finally finish telling his kids the story of how he met their mother, but that’s not all you can expect to see. Fans will also get to see Marshall and Lily help Barney prepare his vows.
Who Will Be in The Finale Scene
As far as the ending scene in the series, E! Online has the scoop:
Milioti revealed that the very last scene of How I Met Your Mother was a touching and tearful moment of déjà vu. This scene, which features The Mother and Ted, was the exact same scene that Milioti performed during her initial audition. “To have that be the last thing…I could barely get through it,” she shared. “[It was nice] to have it come that full circle.” However, keep in mind that this scene may not be the highly anticipated Farhampton train station meeting, but an entirely different moment in their romantic history.
Inquiries About The Mother’s Name
Cleveland.com talks specifically about the “mother” and what we will find out on the finale:
So how did Ted meet the love of his life? We’ve already met the mother, played by Cristin Milioti. And Monday night we’ll learn her name.
Is The Mother Dead?
Many are speculating that the mother will actually be revealed as having passed away in the last episode. E! Online provides insight into this theory saying:
Thomas addressed the issue early in the PaleyFest panel, but also managed to evade a direct answer saying, “It’s surprising. It’s a curve ball and really strange for a sitcom on Monday nights on TV. Stay tuned for two weeks and we’ll see what happens.” However Rador exclusively shared that he was more than happy with the series’ ending. “It’s a great two-part episode and yeah. I’m a fan of a show, so I wanted it to end well, and I’m glad it did.

The ending is about love. Carter Bays states:

Alyson Hanigan told Jimmy Kimmel on Jimmy Kimmel Live that the finale will be extremely emotional and will evoke a lot of tears. She also told him:
The writers really wrapped the show up the way the fans would want it to be wrapped up.
The Future of The HIMYM Gang
Cleveland.com reveals:
We know that Ted finishes the story of how he met the children’s mother. And we’ll learn what happened to the five main characters between Barney and Robin’s wedding and 2030 … Keep in mind, too, that Milioti has denied the theory that the mother is dead or dying in 2030. CBS is promoting the finale with the line, “Let them surprise you one last time.”

Theories That Are Flooding The Internet
Many are speculating this theory, which TV Line has reported. Keep in mind that this is only a prediction, not a spoiler necessarily:
Future Ted is suffering from Alzheimer’s and he’s telling his kids the story before his memory vanishes.
Josh Radnor Gives Fans a One-Word Clue
TV Line writes:
Josh Radnor’s one-word tease about Ted’s final scene ever? “Circle.” Josh Radnor’s 31-word critique of the finale as a whole? “It delivers everything that people love about the show. It roams all over time the way our show does. I think it’s a really great example of what we do best.” (For the record, Radnor cited Ted and Barney’s endgames as the ones that surprised him most.)
Apparently, Radnor (Ted) knew the ending of the series since it began 9 seasons ago … Radnor tells TV Guide:
I knew for nine years, but I didn’t know how they were going to do it until I read the final script.I was over the moon. I was so thrilled. I thought it was just such a great piece of writing and such a great [episode of] How I Met Your Mother. Whatever people love about the show, they’ll love about the finale.
