After last week’s controversial episode of Game of Thrones, viewers are tuning in to this show hoping that we’ll regain some semblance of a moral compass. Will Jaime regain the viewers trust? Even if he turns good “guy again,” his character will be forever changed in the eyes of the viewers.
Let’s see what happens on season 4, episode 4, “Oathkeeper:”
1. Daenerys Targaryen Starts a Revolt in Mereen
Daenerys, continuing her mission to free all of the slaves in the world, has liberated another slave city, but this time, without a siege. Late at night, Grey Worm sneaks bags of weapons to Mereen, the largest slave city of them all. Although we don’t get a ton of violence (that is until the crucifixions), we do get one awesome scene of hordes of slaves swarm and stab a slave owner.
2. Sansa Is Heading to the Eyrie So Littlefinger is Marrying Lady Arryn
Littlefinger is really working his way up in the world through lying and murder, and now he’s headed to marry a real lady. Lady Arryn, Catelyn Stark’s sister, will be marrying Littlefinger giving him more power and hopefully leading Sansa to safety.
3. The Queen of Thorns Admits to Killing the King
After a week of suspense and only little hints as to who really killed King Joffrey, now we know for sure who assassinated the king. Olenna Tyrell, the Queen of Thorns, orchestrated a crazy assassination with Littlefinger and various others, to killed the monster that was going to marry her granddaughter.
4. Jaime Names His New Sword ‘Oathkeeper’ & Gives it to Brienne
Jaime’s new fancy sword, forged from Ned Stark’s giant sword “Ice,” finally gets a name. This one becomes “Oathkeeper,” and is given to Brienne with the charge, fulfill Catelyn Stark’s charge to find her daughters and bring them to safety. With the new sword in hand, that is exactly what Brienne sets out to do.
5. Bran Gets Captured
Bran Stark, one of the last remaining of the noble Stark clan, has been captured by the same Night’s Watch defectors Jon Snow is trying to kill. Maybe this gives Jon an opportunity to save his brother. Will Jon save him and be reunited? Or will Bran die/escape long before Jon even gets there? We’ll have to wait to find out.
Oh yes, and lots of White Walkers.
