They met at St. Peter’s Collegiate in Wolverhampton, when they both were students.
In August of 2013, Payne confirmed that he was in fact dating Smith when he was doing press for doing press for 1D’s film, This Is Us.
When asked if he had a girlfriend, he replied, “Yes, yes I do. She’s sitting right over there. It’s not been long.”
They’ve since earned the nickname “Sophiam.” In September of 2013, she posted this on her Instagram page:
