Gwen Stefani, ‘The Voice’: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Gwen Stefani is appearing on The Voice for the first time as a judge and we’ve got all the info on her, her famous hubby, and her life outside of the spotlight.

1. Stefani’s Husband Joins The Voice as an Advisor

Stefani and Gavin Rossdale have been married for 14 years, but had never really worked together. Stefani had just gotten brought on as a judge when hubby Rossdale was picked up as an advisor for the show. When asked about her husband’s working on the show, Stefani dished to Us Weekly:

He’s so talented, he’s so smart, he knows so much about music and it was really, really fun to do that together. I just feel really lucky because now he’s super invested in the show emotionally, so I can come home and be like, ‘and then, so-and-so, she left my team,’ and he’d be like ‘oh, really?'” She mused: “If he hadn’t been there, he would have been like ‘whatever.’ Now we’re both in it together and you get so emotionally invested in these people, it’s a game, but a game of lives, so it’s pretty cool.

Stefani and Rossdale have three sons together and one is still just a baby – Kingston, 8, Zuma 6, and Apollo, 7 months.

2. Rossdale and Stefani Have Been Fighting On The Voice Set

When Rossdale joined The Voice, Stefani had a period where she was sort of rejecting the idea and freaking out about it. Stefani told The Voice:

Honestly, at first I’d say, ‘Oh, yeah, that’s a good idea,’ but when it came down to it, because it all kind of happened at one time: starting the show, picking advisors … it happened really fast in a condensed period of time, and I had a freak-out … We literally got in a fight the night before because I was like, ‘I don’t know about this …’ I got calmed down and it was really fun.

One big problem between the two love birds was that they had never collaborated on a project before, besides singing a couple duets together. Stefani reveals:

It was just awkward, because we had never done anything [together]. We had only collaborated on making babies together, we had never done anything outside [of that]. I was really nervous about having him there, we have different opinions about music. We like different music, and I was like, ‘You know what? Let’s embrace it. Let’s just do it.

In addition to her chemistry with her husband, Stefani reportedly has amazing chemistry with fellow judge Pharrell, bringing a new flavor to the show.

3. She Dated Bandmate Tony Kanal Prior to Meeting Rossdale

Before meeting husband Gavin Rossdale, Stefani actually dated her No Doubt bandmate Tony Kanal. The two began dating shortly after Stefani joined the group. In fact, Stefani began wearing a bindi in the mid-1990s after attending some of Tony Kanal’s family gatherings, as Kanal is of Indian heritage. Stefani previously stated that she was heavily invested in the relationship, revealing that “…all I ever did was look at Tony and pray that God would let me have a baby with him.” When Stefani and Kanal ended their relationship, it almost caused the band to split up. It was reportedly Kanal who ended the relationship. According to reports, their breakup inspired Stefani to write hits including “Don’t Speak”, “Sunday Morning”, and “Hey You”, which all show the ups and downs of their relationship.

4. Gwen Stefani Has Dyslexia

When Stefani was a kid, she was diagnosed with dyslexia and she actually had to repeat a year of school. According to a Facebook post on the dyslexia:

Though she is now nearly a household name, Gwen was never a success in the classroom. In fact, she was on her way to some serious self-esteem issues before she found her love for music.

Spelling was exceptionally difficult for Stefani and she admits that she’s still not a great speller today. When one has dyslexia, they often have issues with reading, writing and spelling. Dyslexia has nothing to do with one’s intelligence as dyslexia simply makes your brain process written material in a different way than most.

5. Her Net Worth Is $100 Million

Throughout her career, Stefani has amassed a fortune of $100 million. From her life as the lead singer of No Doubt, to her solo career as a music artist, to her fashion company L.A.M.B., Stefani has become an icon. L.A.M.B. made it’s runway debut in 2004 after coming to fruition in 2003 and it continues to show at fashion weeks all over the world. So, where did the idea for L.A.M.B. come from? Wikipedia reports that:

The fashion line manufactures accessories like shoes, watches, bags and a fragrance called “L.” The name is an acronym of her debut solo album Love. Angel. Music. Baby. The line is influenced by a variety of fashions cultures, including Guatemalan, Japanese, Indian and Jamaican styles. Stefani came from a family of seamstresses. This further inspired her to launch her own fashion line.

An additional clothing line called Harajuku Lovers was also launched. L.A.M.B. rakes in an estimated $90 million a year.
