Alfonso Ribeiro, ‘Dancing With The Stars’ Winner: 5 Fast Facts You Need to Know

Alfonso Ribeiro is the contestant who was really the one to beat throughout the entire 19th season of Dancing With the Stars. With the help of dance pro Witney Carson, Alfonso killed it on the dance floor each week. There was no doubt that Alfonso was the dancer who deserved that mirror ball trophy. Read on for the facts on the winner of Dancing With The Stars this season.

1. Injuries Almost Took Alfonso Out of the Competition

Like most of the contestants do each season, Alfonso suffered several injuries, one of which almost took him out of the competition for good. Besides getting hit in the balls by his dance partner a time or two, Alfonso suffered a real groin injury. The injury was taken to another level when he performed his signature “Carlton Dance” from his days on Fresh Prince of Bel-Air. The groin injury was a hindrance, but the real struggle was getting through a debilitating back injury. Right before the semi-finals, Alfonso hurt his back so bad that he was almost unable to continue in the competition. He took it a little easy in his dances, where he was visibly in pain. He was clearly frustrated with his body, but was able to heal and pull through.

2. Will Smith Has Supported Alfonso In This Competition

Several of Alfonso’s co-stars from Fresh Prince of Bel-Air have supported him in this competition (pictured above). One big star who showed his love was Will Smith. In the beginning of the competition, Alfonso wanted to use Will Smith’s song “Jiggy Wit It,” but hadn’t heard back from Smith’s reps, so he shot him a text and Smith told him to go for it. Smith and his buddy Alfonso go way back to their Fresh Prince days and Smith was happy to help. He even posted his support on his Facebook page. One message he posted was this:

If y’all show Alfonso Ribeiro & Witney Carson enough love tonight, they might be able to take home the mirrorball tomorrow!

He later added:

3. Alfonso’s Wife Has Been His Biggest Cheerleader

Alfonso Ribeiro’s wife Angela Unkrich has attended every single show with their 1-year-old baby boy AJ. On the October 27th episode of the show this season, Alfonso announced that he and his wife are expecting their second child together.

Angela has even bonded with Alfonso’s dance partner Witney. You can see tons of photos of Witney playing with little AJ on their Instagram pages. For more information on Angela Unkrich, check out the below link:

5. This Is the First Win for Witney Carson

Alfonso isn’t the only person winning the mirror ball trophy. Pro dancer Witney Carson is taking home her first one as well. In the past she was paired with contestants including Drew Carey and Cody Simpson, but she’s never made it to the finals. This season she suffered a minor back injury, but that didn’t stop her from carrying out amazing performances with Alfonso each week and creating beautiful choreography. Witney has stated that she’s found a brother for life in Alfonso.
