Grey’s Anatomy returns tonight and we’ve got all the spoilers we could find to get ready for it. Show creator Shonda Rhimes had a lot to say about this season’s remaining episodes, telling TV Line:
I said that this was ‘the season of Meredith,’ and she is very much going to be tested by what happens. This will be the first time she’s without Derek and Cristina, without any of those familiar supports, so this will be about her coming into her own, as a person and as a surgeon.
Rhimes continues:
I love the echoes of her mother that are in there and what that means for her. I love the idea that this could possibly mean that for the first time in her life at the hospital, she has neither Cristina nor Derek. (She) is essentially alone and how she’s going to cope with that, it’s going to be very interesting for her.
The mid-season premiere episode is titled “Where Do We Go From Here?” and the plot is this: Meredith keeps herself busy while Derek prepares for his move; Jackson and April get difficult news; Arizona and Amelia talk about how best to approach Dr. Herman. The next episode after this is “The Bed’s Too Big Without You” and the synopsis reads: April stays positive as tests are run on her baby; Dr. Herman plans a crash course in fetal surgery; Callie and Owen encourage each other to return to the dating scene; Bailey, Meredith and Maggie try to learn more about a patient’s tumor.
Actress Kelly McCreary spoke with E! News about the premiere episode, revealing:
In this Thursday night’s episode, you’re going to see Meredith and Maggie have a really nice bonding moment. We started off not getting off to a great start in the beginning, these two ladies, and now they’re coming along and opening up to each other and sharing really nice moments, sharing friends and sharing secrets. So it’s good.
The show producer has revealed that we won’t be seeing Derek (Patrick Dempsey) for a while, though he will return.
Grey’s Anatomy returns January 29, 2015 at 8:00 p.m. on ABC.
