1. Wendy Williams Helped His Career And Hurt Him Later One
Wendy Williams gave Charlamagne his first radio gig on The Wendy Williams Experience, but in an interview with Elvis Duran on the radio, she seemed not to even know who he was. On his Brilliant Idiots podcast, Charlamagne opened up about his pain and stated:
It hurt me this week when Wendy Williams was on Elvis Duran Show. Elvis was interviewing Wendy he bought up the time I was telling him Wendy gave me great advice…Wendy Williams goes ‘Who?…who?’ Elvis goes ‘Charlamagne … Charlamagne tha god’ And Wendy goes ‘Who?’ And he goes ‘Charlamagne that works right down the hall, Charlamagne that use to work with you a few years ago. She goes ‘I don’t know why you’re talking about people I don’t know anything about.
Despite this, Charlamagne took the high road and stated:
That woman put me in the position that I’m in now. I could never talk bad about her. I could never talk bad about her and I could never talk bad about her husband Kev.
2. He Models Himself After Howard Stern
They call Charlamagne the “Shock Jock” because of his bluntness, so it’s no surprise that Wetpaint reports Howard Stern to be his media icon. Charlamagne actually called Kanye West’s album “Yeezus” “whack” to his face and also called him Kanye Kardashian.
3. Charlamagne Came Up With His Name When He Was In School
Charlamagne was born Lenard McKelvey and told the New York Times:
When I used to hustle. I called myself Charles because I didn’t want the people who bought crack from me to know my real name. And then when I was in night school, I was reading in the history book about Charlemagne, which is French for Charles the Great.
He added “Tha God” because it sounded cool to him. Charlamagne’s reported net worth is $500,000.
4. His Father Opened Up About Charlamagne’s Legal Issues
Growing up, Charlamagne got into a lot of trouble. His father told the New York Times:
I had to bust him upside his head a lot of times to get him back on the right track. He got in with the wrong crowd and did a lot of crazy stuff … The third time he got locked up, I let him sit there for approximately 41 days. That’s when he called my wife and asked her to please get him out of jail. That’s when I decided ‘Enough is enough. I’ll give him another chance.’
Charlamagne expanded on this, saying:
I was in the back seat of a car and a shooting happened, and so all of us ended up going to jail for it.
5. He’s Reportedly Married
There have been reports that Charlamagne is married, though we haven’t heard much about his alleged wife. His listeners, have made posts online that he admits to openly cheating on his relationships. TattleTailzz reported in September 2014:
