Here’s what you need to know:
1. A Suspect Has Been Charged With Aggravated Murder
NOLA.com reports that Aaronesia Christophe, 26, has been arrested in relation with the crime. The website says that she’s facing charges of second-degree murder and aggravated battery. It began in New Orleans’ St. Roch neighborhood when Mussa and Christophe got into an argument. Police say Mussa hit Christophe and then the suspect went to her car and got a knife, stabbing Mussa, just after 7 p.m. on April 8. The Times-Picayune reports that:
Christophe claimed that she had arrived at a high school friend’s home about 6:45 p.m. when Mussa, who Christophe said was her friend’s ex-girlfriend, came out of the house and began yelling at her to leave.
Mussa lives at the home, located along Derbigny Street. Christophe maintains, according to the Times-Picayune, that she stabbed Mussa in self-defense.
2. Mussa Owns a New Orleans Boutique With Solange Knowles
Mussa is listed as the Project Director for Solange Knowles’ brand Saint Heron. She also owns a boutique in New Orleans’ French Quarter. In the about section of the Saint Hebron website, it’s described as:
Saint Records presents Saint Heron – a collaborative compilation album featuring 11 independent artists telling their unique stories on one innovative platform. Saint Records was designed to give new and ingenious artists a space to create their music and circulate their art – in turn becoming a haven for R&B lovers and listeners to discover music free of marketplace politics.
The intent of the album, and the label at large, is to feature, highlight and align a new movement of contemporary, genre-defying R&B visionaries, which will serve as a segue into the diverse evolution of these independent artists as they share their voices and words as only they can – through pure, unadulterated music.
Her store, Exodus, opened in August 2014, the New York Times reported on its opening saying that Mussa had “deliberately managed to keep word of their project confined mostly to their cult Instagram following.” The Times article mentions that Mussa, along with co-owners Darlene and Lizzy Okpo, didn’t want the store to be defined by its fourth partner, Solange Knowles.
