4. Her First Movie Role Was in ‘Hercules’
In the film, she played Megara, Hercules’ (played by Dwayne Johnson) wife. She explained her character to Vogue:
Megara, my character, is a Greek mythology character; she’s the wife of Hercules. It’s my first time, but hopefully not the last time! It was a very small role but a very important character for the movie and I felt this was something I could definitely handle for my first role. Also, my name is Greek, Irina, so I felt attached to the film right away.
This was her acting debut and she held out for the role, having gotten offered other parts in the past. “Every time I get a script, it’s, like, bartender…stripper… And I don’t think I would make a bad bartender or stripper, you know?” she told Maxim.
5. She’s Russian
Shayk is humble and remains connected to her Russian roots. “I believe people always should remember their origin. I wasn’t born in New York on 5th Avenue. I came from a Russian village. I planted potatoes, cucumbers, tomatoes, and I’m proud of it. My origin and my education are the most important reasons of my success,” she told Elle Russia.
Many don’t realize that she is Russian, and usually confuse her with other nationalities.
She told Vogue, “People don’t believe I’m Russian, they always say, ‘You look Brazilian’ – but my father was a Tatar, which is close to Mongolia, and I get my colouring from him. I always say that I’m a Russian spy.”
