Denise Jackson – Alan Jackson’s Wife

Denise Jackson

Denise Jackson is the wife of country star Alan Jackson and the couple have been married since December 15, 1979. The two were high school sweethearts who were married at Newnan Baptist Church in their hometown of Newnan, Georgia. It was actually Denise who helped her husband get his first recording contract as The Boot reports: While working as a flight attendant, she ran into Glen Campbell and told him about her talented husband. Campbell took an interest in the young man and helped the future country legend get a record deal with Arista Records. Denise Jackson had three daughters by Alan (Mattie, Ali and Dani) and then the couple separated, but after four months apart, they rekindled their romance and renewed their wedding vows. Denise talked about their brief split to People Magazine, stating that: We had this unhealthy way of relating to one another—I was needy and felt incompetent and weak, and he had to take on the role of decision maker. We didn't know how to fix our relationship. Now I feel like we are finally two equal partners who love and respect each other ... We learned that if a relationship's going to be good, you have to make it a priority. Even if it's just getting up 30 minutes before the children do in the morning, having our coffee and being together uninterrupted. Or sitting on the porch in the afternoon for 10 minutes to catch up on our day. Denise opened up to People about what their relationship is like now that their marriage is steady and on track, saying: We'll get the wine and sit in these Adirondack chairs, being together in one of the beautiful places we have. He's so much more romantic than me ... He goes way beyond the expensive diamonds and all the stuff he gives me. It's the valentine he writes on a paper plate from our kitchen and wraps in a red string—those kinds of things melt my heart. I don't think that most men are like that. I ended up with a great catch. During the couple's marriage, Alan Jackson actually had a brief affair, which his wife forgave him for and wrote about in her memoir "It’s All About Him: Finding the Love of My Life". When her book was coming out in 2007, Denise talked about her husband's feelings on the book to People, explaining: It's not enjoyable to talk about your mistakes and regrets. But on the other hand, he knew why I wanted to write the book and that it was important for me to admit that he had been unfaithful, because one of the main messages of the book is about forgiveness and how healing can come when we work through problems and infidelities. Probably half the marriages out there experience what we do but there's only a very, very small percentage that really survives. In 2010, Denise Jackson was diagnosed with cancer, but today she is cancer-free and her husband couldn't be happier, telling The Boot: She’s doing great. Of course, you have to get a scan every few months to check on everything, and it’s all been clear and looking good. She didn’t lose all her hair, but it did get pretty thin. She’s looking better now. She’s probably more healthy than she’s ever been now because she watches what she eats and does, and now she’s wearing me out! Everything’s looking good. I appreciate everybody’s prayers and concerns. Check out Denise and Alan Jackson's best photos together by clicking through our gallery. (Getty)
