This summer’s Avengers: Age of Ultron will debut a number of new characters to the Marvel Studios universe.
The film’s main menace, Ultron, will try to destroy the human race and go to war with The Avengers we all know and love. Diehard followers of Marvel Comics will be happy to see Quicksilver, Vision and Ultron himself on the big screen for teh 1st time. One of the other debuting characters the world is ready to see wreak some havoc is Scarlet Witch, who’s being played by actress Elizabeth Olsen.
Here’s everything you need to know about Elizabeth Olsen and her role as the all-powerful Scarlet Witch.
1. Elizabeth Olsen Plays the Role of Scarlet Witch
Elizabeth Olsen will don the likeness of longtime Marvel Comics’ character Scarlet Witch in Avengers: Age of Ultron. Elizabeth’s film track record starts back in 1994, due to her cameo appearance in the film How the West Was Fun. She actually appeared in 2014’s Godzilla as Elle Brody, the wife of Lt. Ford Brody (played by Aaron Taylor-Johnson). Funny enough, she’ll now play the twin sister opposite her twin brother Quicksilver (played by the same actor she co-starred with in the aforementioned movie).
Elizabeth was first introduced to the world of Marvel movies during her post-credits sequence from Captain America: The Winter Soldier. She comes into her superpowers due to the experiments performed on her with Loki’s magical scepter. Elizabeth has already signed on to star in Captain America: Civil War and reprise her superhero role.
2. Scarlet Witch Is the Twin Sister of Quicksilver
Scarlet Witch is connected to Quicksilver through blood since she’s his twin sister. Her 1st comic book appearance occurred in X-Men #4. At first, she was known as the daughter of Magneto but was later rebooted to stand in as his step-child. Alongside her brother, she was initally a villain who was a member of the Brotherhood of Evil Mutants. Later on though, her and her brother fought on the side of good when they both aligned themselves with The Avengers.
During her comic book run, she was written in as the love interest of a character who’s debuting in Avengers: Age of Ultron – Vision. Her other team alliances include her time with the Avengers Unity Squad, Lady Liberators, West Coast Avengers, Defenders, Secret Defenders and Force Works.
3. Scarlet Witch has Access to an Array of Cool Powers
Scarlet Witch’s main powers includes hypnosis, telekinesis and the ability to manipulate reality in several different ways. She’s capable of manifesting physical “hex spheres” or “hex bolts,” which materialize and performs several actions.
Scarlet can utilize them to light objects on fire, deflect incoming projectiles, stop their momentum altogether, create force fields etc. During her later years in the Marvel Comics universe, it was revealed that her new powers entail the use of “Mutant Magic,” which involves the use of chaos magic.
4. Elizabeth Olsen Comes from a Very Famous Family
As you’ve probably already guessed by her last name, Elizabeth is the younger sister of Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen. She also has an older brother by the name of Trent Olsen and two additional younger half-siblings. Elizabeth made six separate appearances in the 90’s video series, The Adventures of Mary-Kate & Ashley.
At one point, she almost gave up on her career in acting due to the 2004 scandal circling around Mary-Kate’s eating disorder and the media madness surrounding it.
5. Elizabeth Previously Dated a Fellow Actor
Miss Olsen once dated actor Boyd Holbrook, who appeared in films such as Gone Girl, Milk, Run All Night and A Walk Among Tombstones. Both actors first came across each other back in 2012 on the set of Very Good Girls. They later got engaged in 2014, but they ended up splitting up at the start of 2015.
