Top 5 Best Netflix New Releases: May 2015 Movies

new on netflix may 2015

With April almost over, Netflix has announced the new movies coming in May 2015. Unfortunately, we won’t see anything quite as awesome as the new Daredevil TV series (definitely add it to your Netflix queue right now if you haven’t watched it yet). Still, there will be some great new movies on Netflix in May.

So without further ado, here are the top 5 best new movies on Netflix, May 2015 releases edition:

1. Inglourious Basterds

Coming to Netflix on May 22, 2015
Starring: Brad Pitt, Eli Roth, Christoph Waltz
Original Release Date: August 21, 2009

There’s nothing quite like watching Inglourious Basterds for the first time if you don’t know what to expect. This Quentin Tarantino movie is as brutal as his other flicks, as it follows a fictional alternate history of plots to assassinate Nazi Germany’s leaders by a group of Jewish-American soldiers that, basically, kill everyone in their path. It was nominated for 8 Oscars, including Best Picture and Best Director. It’s a definite must-see movie, as it is a unique thrill-ride unlike any other.

2. Fruitvale Station

Coming to Netflix on May 12, 2015
Starring: Michael B. Jordan, Melonie Diaz
Original Release Date: July 26, 2013

Fruitvale Station was a breakout role for Michael B. Jordan, bringing his acting career to a new level of critical appreciation. The film follows the events leading up to the death of Oscar Grant, a young man killed by a police officer in Fruitvale’s Train Station. The film obviously has even more social relevancy now, and it’s definitely an interesting and thought-provoking movie.

3. The Boxtrolls

Coming to Netflix on May 23, 2015
Starring: Ben Kingsley, Jared Harris, Nick Frost, Simon Pegg
Original Release Date: September 26, 2014

This isn’t your typical Simon Pegg/Nick Frost movie. The Boxtrolls is based on Here Be Monsters!, a novel by Alan Snow. It contains typical British off-beat wit and has stunning visuals that appeals to all ages. It comes from the makers of Coraline and ParaNorman, so if you liked those animated movies, you’ll likely dig The Boxtrolls.

4. Legally Blonde

Coming to Netflix on May 1, 2015
Starring: Reese Witherspoon, Luke Wilson, Selma Blair
Original Release Date: July 13, 2001

Legally Blonde is one of those movies you have to see just once, and then you’re done with it, which is rare for a comedy. But the laughs are there enough to make it at least watchable, and it’s Reese Witherspoon’s only romantic comedy that’s actually even slightly funny.

5. Jimi: All is by My Side

Coming to Netflix on May 1, 2015
Starring: Andre (3000) Benjamin, Hayley Atwell
Original Release Date: October 24, 2014

Any fan of Jimi Hendrix will appreciate Jimi: All is by My Side starring Andre “3000” Benjamin as the real-life guitar hero. Hendrix was the inspiration for many great guitarists of our generation. Unfortunately, the trouble with making a Jimi Hendrix flick is that Hendrix’s estate won’t allow any of his songs to be used in the actual movie. Somehow, Jimi: All is by My Side pulled the movie off so it turned out pretty good in the end.
