Meghan Linsey is a smiley, blonde music artist in the country realm of the competition on The Voice. She’s already an accomplished singer and is fairly known in the music industry. Read on for the facts on Linsey’s boyfriend, her former music group and what her coach Blake Shelton thinks of her.

1. Her Boyfriend Tyler Cain Is Also A Musician

Tyler Cain is the boyfriend of Meghan Linsey, 23, and he’s a music artist himself. The two have been dating over three years and Cain has his own production company called Cain Productions. His professional website gives some background on Cain:

Cain moved to Nashville about a decade ago. After graduating from Belmont University with a degree in music business, he worked for an artist management company. This led to a job in artist development in the creative department of a national record label, before Cain transitioned to producing, performing, recording and songwriting full-time in 2004. With valuable experience in various genres of music on both the creative and business sides of the music industry, Cain opened his own studio in the heart of Nashvilles famed Music Row. Cain Productions can take your ideas from concept to polished finished product.

2. Steel Magnolia Was A Successful Country Duo That Involved Linsey And Her Ex

Steel Magnolia was a country music duo that Linsey was a part of with her ex-fiance Joshua Scott Jones. They were an American country music duet that won the second season of the TV show Can You Duet. Jones and Linsey met when she was a karaoke host at a Nashville karaoke bar, called Lonnie’s Western Room. Then, in 2011, Jones announced he was going to rehab for drugs and after rehab and the two broke off their engagement. They didn’t officially announce the break up of their music group until 2014.

3. Linsey Has Opened Up For Big Stars Including Her Coach Blake Shelton

Meghan Linsey’s personal website talks about how she got started in the music industry at a young age and ended up opening for big country stars including her coach on The Voice. Her website bio states:

At age 14, Meghan started playing shows with her own band and a short year later she was opening for acts such as Brad Paisley and Blake Shelton at events around Louisiana and Texas. She also began to make regular trips to Nashville to play at the legendary Bluebird Cafe. “I played the early slot, but I would always stay for the late show because that’s when so many of the great songwriters I loved would play,” she says. It wasn’t long before she began writing with many of those same songwriters. After graduation, Meghan made the trip to Nashville and stayed to chase her dream.

Coach Shelton says Linsey reminds him of Betty Boop.

4. The Voice Called Linsey At the Right Time

Linsey was having trouble financially and career-wise, so she was thrilled when The Voice contacted her, telling Billboard:

I spent so many years investing in the Steel Magnolia brand that people don’t really know me as Meghan Linsey on my own. And I feel like it’s almost impossible to be a female and get played on country radio now. I don’t have a ton of money in the bank. I was getting to a point where I can’t do this independently anymore. That’s why it became really clear when they called that this was the right decision.

5. Linsey Auditioned For The Voice In Hopes Of Expanding Her Fan Base

In addition to financial reasons, Linsey decided to audition for The Voice so that she could reach a bigger fan base, stating that:

I’ve always been a risk taker, and as an artist, I want to continue to challenge myself and push the boundaries. I’m looking forward to The Voice as an opportunity to grow and to reach an even broader fan base! I’m excited to show America who I am!

Being on the show has given Linsey a chance to explore her soulful side:

I grew up in New Orleans, and soul music is my favorite thing to sing. As I go on the show and am in the studio making new music, I really am trying to get back to my roots. I moved to Nashville in 2004 and would go play Bluebird writers’ nights, and I fell in love with the way people were writing country songs and telling a story. So I tried to marry my soulful voice with the story element of country. But being on Team Pharrell, it’s a good time for me to explore more of that soul side of what I do.
