Canadian TV star Chris Hyndman has passed away, according to multiple reports in his homeland. Hyndman was the co-host of the CBC talk show Steven and Chris with his partner Steve Sabados. The pair were a well rehearsed double act with Hyndman often acting as the comic relief to his more serious partner. He was 49 years old.

1. He Just Returned From Barbados & Was Found Dead Hours Later in an Alleyway

Hyndman posted this picture to Facebook on August 2, three days before he died. It was accompanied with the caption “Hope everyone’s having a good long weekend! Don’t work too hard.”

The couple’s last Instagram post says the couple had just returned from Barbados, where they had a second home, for the annual CropOver festival.

That party had been attended by Rihanna. His body was found late on the night of August 3 by Toronto police in an alley way on the city’s east end, reports CBC. Det. Terry Wray told the network that no witnesses are being sought but the case remains an open investigation. The website See Toronto Now notes that the East End is “fast becoming a focal point of gay culture” in the city. CBC reports that Hyndman and Sabados lived in the area.


2. His Show Has Been Pulled From Schedules

According to CBC, the show has been pulled from schedules until further notice. An internal memo from inside the company simply read “It is with profound sadness that we share the news Christopher Hyndman died early this morning. We extend our deepest sympathies to Steven, family, friends and colleagues; our thoughts are with them all.” Hyndman’s death was further confirmed with the same statement appearing on his Facebook page.

4. He Grew Up in Paradise

Hyndman grew up in Paradise, Newfoundland. According to one online profile, he was “influenced early on by his mother’s sense of style and love of her home.” It was at home where he first helped in design projects. His belief was that color was the lifeblood of the room.


5. His Talk Show Was Syndicated in 17 Countries

Prior to getting their own show, Hyndman and Sabados hosted the Designer Guys from 2000 until 2002, the program was syndicated to 17 different countries. Together with Sabados they were the owners of The Sabados Group, an event planning company. Their work has been featured on Oprah.

His talk show debuted in Canada in January 2008, around the time that he and Sabados admitted they were in a relationship together. The couple married later that same year.
