Welcome to the spotlight, Jamal Lyon.

The younger Lyon is slowly but surely facing a character change, and will likely capture some social media headlines, as he takes center stage in the brand-new episode of Empire, titled “Without a Country,” on Wednesday night.

As Jamal (Jussie Smollett) begins to take his responsibilities more seriously, he starts to evolve as well and it may just turn him into the next fascinating character on a show filled with a cast of literal and metaphorical characters. So, what sparks Jamal’s journey down the road that may actually make him as ruthless as his father (Terrence Howard)? With Lucious still in jail, Jamal begins to take his business responsibilities more seriously and starts focusing on the company more than his own music.

Meanwhile, Cookie (Taraji P. Henson) opts to start her own small record label, looking to forge her own music path, but it’s off to a less-than-ideal start as everyone involved seems to have a different opinion on the path the label should take. Hakeem (Bryshere Y. Gray) decides to form a girl group as his first project, enlisting the talents of a new lead singer (guest start Becky).

Rap star Ludacris is also slated to guest start on tonight’s episode, playing Officer McKnight, a security officer inside the prison where Lucious had been serving time.

Empire is scheduled for 9 p.m. ET on Wednesday night on FOX
