Kim Zolciak Biermann hasn’t spoken to her parents in about four years. She and her mother Karen have often had their ups and downs, but Karen Zolciak pushed boundaries at Kim’s wedding to husband Kroy Biermann. She disobeyed party rules and was talking badly about her own daughter and new son-in-law at their own wedding. Karen was eventually removed from the wedding. Though it appeared Kim’s father Joe was on good terms with his daughter, he then spoke out to the media calling her a pathological liar. We watched Kim’s heart break on her reality show as she read what her dad had said about her. In 2012, Joe Zolciak told TMZ:
Kim is a pathological liar PERIOD. I will not tolerate her trying to make a mockery of my wife or our family any further. We are completely humiliated by all the lies she has put in the media. She has been married twice and has three different fathers of her four children. Let’s face the facts.
Kim’s lawyer stated to TMZ in return that:
Kim is heartbroken and saddened by the derogatory and spiteful statements made by her mother and father, Karen and Joe Zolciak … [Kim] cannot comprehend for what rational purpose her parents have decided to humiliate their grandchildren’s mother in such a public display of hatred and fabrications.
At one point, Karen and Joe tried to take their daughter to court for grandparent rights to Kim’s two oldest daughters. Nothing came of this and the two grandparents have still not met some of their grandchildren.
Currently, Kim’s husband Kroy is estranged from his parents as well because of their disapproval of his marrying Kim. Kroy’s parents did not approve of Kim having two children from previous relationships and were concerned with how she appeared when she was a cast member of Real Housewives of Atlanta. On Kim and Kroy’s reality show Don’t Be Tardy, Kroy stated:
We all make mistakes, we all go through problems, but at some point, you’ve got to help with some more love. You’ve got to put some more work back into that fucking relationship on both sides — but if you never do that, it’s over.
Kim’s response was this:
It weighed me down for a long time and took my happiness and my joy away from my own family and focusing on my own family. I don’t know what the future holds, but for now, I have six little munchkins that I’m going to continue to protect.
