What to Watch on Thanksgiving Instead of Football

After the Thanksgiving meal is over and half your family is running to the TV to watch football, what can you do if you’re just not a big football fan? There are actually quite a few options this year! Here are some favorites:


Television Marathons

Some of your favorite shows are having marathons today, including:

  • Friends – 10 am to 4 pm EST on TBS – You can binge watch Friends during this marathon of all their Thanksgiving episodes. Sounds like fun!
  • Modern Family – 4 pm to 1 am EST on USA – After the Friends marathon ends, the Modern Family marathon starts.
  • Star Trek: The Next Generation – 6 am to 6 am EST on BBC – We’re talking 24 hours of Jean Luc Picard. Perfect for Thanksgiving!
  • That 70’s Show – 6 am to 10 pm EST on IFC – In case you’re missing this show, it’s on today.
  • Keeping Up with the Kardashians – 8 am to 7 pm on ET – There will probably be a lot of people tuning in for this one.
  • The Simpsons – 4 pm to 10 pm on FXX – Why not celebrate with some humor?
  • Sex and the City – 12:08 pm to 8 pm. EST on Oxygen – This is perfect for a girls’ night in on Thanksgiving, especially if you don’t want to take part in Thursday night Black Friday shopping.

Binge Watching New TV Shows

Thanks to Netflix, Amazon Prime, Hulu, and other streaming services, you can binge watch your favorite shows or try out a brand new series. Some recently released shows you might want to binge watch include:

  • Jessica Jones – This amazing Marvel show has just been released on Netflix.
  • The Man in the High Castle – You can binge watch this one on Amazon Prime. It’s gotten some rave reviews.

Other Fun TV Options

You’re not stuck with TV series or old movies. Here are a few other events happening on TV today:

  • Broadway at the White House – 8 pm EST on TLC – Hosted by Kristen Chenoweth and Matthew Morrison, this special includes performances from some Broadway productions.
  • All-Star Dog Rescue Celebration  – 8 pm EST on Fox – Celebrities share some of the cutest dogs that need adopting. This year the list of celebrities includes Paula Abdul, Scarlett Johannsen, and Miley Cyrus.
  • Hallmark Movies – Hallmark Channel – Nothing says the holidays like Hallmark movies, which are airing all day, every day, right now. A brand new movie called 12 Gifts of Christmas will air at 8 pm EST, but you can catch encores of a lot of great Hallmark movies all day.
  • The National Dog Show – 12:00 pm on NBC – This is one way to make Thanksgiving adorable!
