A Twitter trend started by Verizon is asking fans to share their theories relating to the upcoming Star Wars film Star Wars: The Force Awakens, which is scheduled to be released on December 18, 2015. On the Verizon-sponsored website TheoryWars.com, fans are encouraged to select from a category of characters from the iconic movie franchise, and then tweet a theory they have related to the character in the upcoming movie.
According to TheoryWars.com website: “There are thousands of theories for Star Wars: The Force Awakens. But only those on Theory Wars give you the chance to win tickets to a special screening on 12/19.”
The film’s details are vague for sure, and rumors are swirling. Here are some of the crazy Star Wars fan theories for upcoming movie:
1. Luke Skywalker Has Joined the Dark Side
Anybody who has watched Star Wars knows that, dating back to the original, Luke Skywalker was the ultimate symbol of good. But the latest installment in the series has many people speculating that could all get turned on its head. Luke isn’t anywhere to be seen or heard from in any of the trailers, either.
It’s plausible that he could have followed his father’s, Darth Vader’s, footsteps to the darkside. And the inclusion of Kylo Ren has some thinking that it is, actually, Luke himself under the hood and behind Ren’s mask. Luke does seem to fancy all-black outfits…
2. Chewbacca & R2D2 Are Actually Rebel Agents
Chewbacca and R2D2 hold a firm frip on pop culture from the 1970s until now. They are without a doubt two of the most lovable and highly marketable characters and forces for good in the series’ history. But could they actually be bad guys? What a twist that would be! But how plausible is it?
According to reports, this theory has its roots in old plot holes that fans have been discussing for quite some time. The plot holes include such points as R2-D2 and C-3PO viewing Anakin Skywalker’s transformation into Darth Vader, as well as Yoda and Chewbacca knowing one another with out a real explanation as to how.
3. Boba Fett Will Be Back Despite His Apparent Demise
Always a fan-favorite, Boba Fett appeared to tumble to his death in Return of the Jedi, though he never left the heart of ardent Star Wars fans. Now, however, there’s a bit of speculation that he’ll be back for The Force Awakens.
Boba Fett hailed from Mandalor, and the Mandalorian symbols appear prominently in the movie’s trailer. Is that simply a tribute to Boba Fett? A signal that another Mandalorian character will emerge in the new flick? Either way, it’s a big tease to Star Wars fans everwhere.
4. Obi-Wan Kenobi Is Really a Clone
This one may seem a bit far-fetched at first. But the theory really is based from the original Star Wars Trilogy, in which the ‘clone wars’ are mentioned. This, coupled with the fact that the Obi-Wan character undergoes name change from Ben Kenobi, really got fans thinking: Is this the same person? Or is it a clone?
As has been pointed out in the past, Obi-Wan Kenobi sounds an awful like a serial number for a clone (O-B-1). Also, the fact that Obi Wan didn’t remember R2D2 in Episode IV even though his life was saved by R2D2 in Episode I is a bit fishy. But, it COULD just simply be a plot hold.
5. Darth Vader Is Alive After All
Darth Vader dies in Episode VI. Most everyone has seen this scene in their lifetime. But, a new fan theory puts the Evil Empire lord back in action for Episode VI. This theory also has roots in Kylo Ren and clones.
Kylo Ren, it’s been confirmed by director J.J. Abrams, is not a Sith, but he’s working with The First Order. His motivations are still largely unknown. It’s been revealed that he’s obsessed with Darth Vader, so it’s been a wild-running rumor that Ren is either attempting to resurrect or clone Vader.
Which one of these theories is the most plausible? Will any of them actually happen? We’ll have to tune in to The Force Awakens find out.
