Celine Dion has lost her husband Rene Angelil after a long battle with throat cancer. And, just days later, she lost her brother to cancer as well. Yesterday, at Montreal’s Notre Dame Basilica, Dion and her family greeted family, friends and hundreds of fans paying their respects at Angelil’s wake. According to the Montreal Gazette, the doors opened at 2:30 p.m. and you can see the lineup outside the church from yesterday by clicking here. Angelil was lying in state in an open casket at the front of the church, wearing black-rimmed glasses. A memorial card for Angelil was distributed to visitors and it had a quote from his wife that said:
“I understood that my career was in a way his masterpiece, his song, his symphony. The idea of leaving it unfinished would have hurt him terribly. I realized that if he ever left us, I would have to continue without him, for him,” — Céline Dion.
When it comes to Angelil’s funeral today, it is a very public event as well, beginning at 3:00 p.m. ET. Celine Dion’s official Facebook page has revealed that it will be live streamed and available to watch across the globe. The exact Facebook post (which was posted yesterday) reads:

The funeral takes place in the very church where Angelil married his beautiful wife Celine Dion 21 years ago.
There will also be a Celebration of Life event in Las Vegas on February 3, 2016 at the Caesars Palace Colosseum from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m.

Surrounded by the love of his family and friends, René Angélil passed away on Thursday, January 14, 2016, on the eve of his 74th birthday. He will be remembered as a gentle man, generous and kind, an unprecedented visionary, a modern Pygmalion, a Renaissance man. All who had the privilege of knowing him and of working closely with him, whether personally or professionally, salute a leader and a man of great intelligence and wisdom. As her manager, René Angélil made Céline Dion a star of international stature. René and Céline’s actions made a strong and permanent statement shedding light on Québec’s many talents and carrying it all over the world. For this reason and for many others that bind him to the core values of this country, he has touched people’s hearts. They realize that they have lost a conqueror and a man of great substance and influence. He is now a part of the collective memory of the music industry, be it in Canada or elsewhere in the world.
