Chris Martin is the lead singer, rhythm guitarist and pianist for the alternative rock band Coldplay. The multi-Grammy award-winning band is undoubtedly an international phenomenon, and its lead singer, Chris Martin, its most recognizable member.
Chris Martin was born on March 2, 1977, in Exeter, Devon, England, making him 38 years old at the time of the band’s Super Bowl 50 performance on February 7, 2016. Martin attended University College London, where he met the original — and still only — members of Coldplay, Will Champion, Guy Berryman and Jonny Buckland.
In 2000, the band released their debut album, Parachutes. The album was a commercial success, peaking at No. 1 on the U.K. charts and entering the U.S. Billboard 200 with hits like “Yellow,” “Trouble” and “Don’t Panic.” The album eventually was certified platinum seven times.
Such exposure has catapulted the band, and Martin, to celebrity status. Martin met actress Gwyneth Paltrow backstage at a concert in 2002, and the couple married a year later, in December 2003. The couple had two children together: A daughter Apple Blythe Alison Martin and a son Moses Bruce Anthony Martin, born in 2004 and 2006, respectively. Martin and Paltrow ended up separating in March 2014.
Since then, Martin has been linked in another high-profile relationship with other blonde actresses, first dating the young Jennifer Lawrence before moving on to currently seeing actress Annabelle Wallis. His celebrity has also seen him take on the late night talk show circuit, most recently appearing in an episode of The Late Late with James Corden on CBS, where the two sang karaoke in Corden’s car:
