Nev Schulman and his partner in crime Max Joseph return to MTV with an all new round of Catfish episodes for season 5. For the premiere episode, we actually have a triple situation. Both Malik and Dejay, who do not know each other, seem to be getting “catfished” by someone calling himself Josiah. So, what’s the story? Here’s what we know …
1. This Episode is a ‘Catfish’ First

On tonight’s episode of Catfish, Schulman and Joseph are contacted by the show’s casting director after receiving two separate submissions about the same person. Both submissions are from different states and believe that they are in a longtime relationship with “Josiah.” The two submissions are Dejay and Malik Capers.
2. Dejay Has Been Talking With Josiah for Seven Years

Dejay contacts Catfish from St. Louis and says that he has been in an on-again-off-again relationship with Josiah, who claims to be from Philadelphia. Dejay says that he has actually been talking with Josiah for seven years.
3. Josiah Had Admitted to Not Being the Person in His Photos

Whenever Dejay would try to video chat or meet with Josiah, “something would always go wrong.” Malik would have similar issues. Dejay revealed that Josiah did admit that he wasn’t the man in the photos he had online. See an example of one of the photos Josiah used to represent himself above.

4. According to Malik, He Was Dating Josiah for Five Years

Malik, who hails from Charlotte, claims that he had been talking to Josiah online for five years. He too, says they had been dating on and off throughout their relationship. Malik says that he hasn’t been able to video chat or meet due to phone issues. In addition, Josiah told him that he “moved around a lot.”
5. Malik Has His Own YouTube Channel
