‘Scandal’ Season 5B
It’s the winter premiere of season 5 of Scandal and one of our favorite couples is not together. Though Olivia and Fitz almost had to get married in the first half of the season, things have drastically changed. The official synopsis of episode 10 reads:
It’s been six months since Olivia and Fitz have broken up, and they are both handling their newfound freedom in very different ways. Meanwhile, the Pope and Associates team take on a case that could lead to a national crisis.
And, in episode 11 of the season, titled “The Candidate,” there is another unexpected turn as the plot description reads:
Mellie seeks out Olivia’s help but may not be prepared for what that entails, and Liz tries to convince Susan Ross to run for the presidency. Meanwhile, Abby and Cyrus are at odds when a profile piece on Fitz comes into question.

Could enemies Mellie and Olivia actually team up this season?
The last we left Olivia and Fitz, Olivia had left Fitz after her surprising abortion. Now, Abby is reported to be the President’s new “crutch” to lean on. Cast member Darby Stanchfield, who plays Abby, told Variety:
Abby, in a way, is kind of left holding the bag in this explosion when Olivia leaves the White House. The president isn’t relying on Cyrus as much, they seem to be not as close. Abby is left in a totally new world herself and there’s some really great stuff coming up for Abby in that she steps into a new set of responsibilities or interests that she would never have guessed herself in.
Stanchfield also reveals that Jake and Olivia may start things up again, explaining that:
They do find each other back in each other’s world. I think every character has a major change in their identity coming back into the season — Jake comes back and he also finds himself in a new position and his love life becomes very interesting so I think Olivia may or not be a part of that. They have some working out to do, the two of them. There’s some great stuff.
So, it looks like the rest of this season is going to be filled with new relationships. We’ll have to see what’s in store for Olivia Pope.
