As Donald Trump progresses on the campaign trail on his bid for the presidency, his naysayers have only increased in quantity. The Donald’s latest opposition is Miley Cyrus, who tweeted that she’d leave the country if Trump were to be sworn into The Oval Office.
While assumptions could be made that Trump — for his untraditional viewpoints — and Cyrus — for her edginess — are cut from that same cloth, such is not the case.
Despite Cyrus’s disapproval over the GOP candidate’s views, Trump, 69, and the “Wrecking Ball” singer aren’t exactly strangers. The Donald has even sent out positive vibes to Cyrus on two occasions.
Here’s what you need to know:
1. Cyrus Cried Over Trump’s Support for a Hunter
On March 1, Cyrus, 23, posted a three-in-one photo on Instagram — pictured above — that featured: Trump posing with an unnamed woman, that woman holding a dead animal and the singer in tears.
“Yes. That is a tear rolling down my cheek dripping off the end of my nose…..This makes me unbelievably scared and sad…Not only for our country but for animals that I love more than anything in this world…. & YOU DT ARE NOT GOD NO MATTER HOW MUCH YOU THINK YOU ARE!!!”
Cyrus — a vegan — has continually fought for animal rights, even dedicating the final portion of a September 2015 Milky Milky Milk Concert in Los Angeles to saving the whales, according to Entertainment Tonight. During her set, she performed “We Can’t Stop” while Baywatch’s Pamela Anderson joined her on-stage. During the performance, Anderson had “No Captivity” written across her leg and told the crowd to “Go vegan.”
That month, Cyrus also asked her Instagram followers to sign a petition opposing wolf killings (shown below). Paper Magazine reported that she’s eliminated all animal products from her life.
The CD was independently released on Sound Cloud for free streaming. Cyrus — calling out another animal hunter below — is well-known for being an animal rights advocate.
In 2011, a media circus erupted when TMZ reported that Trump’s son, Donald Trump Jr., went safari hunting and said he had “no shame” in hunting. In a disturbing photo, Trump’s son is seen holding a dead elephant’s tail.
“My sons love to hunt. They are members of the NRA, very proudly. I am a big believer in the Second Amendment. But my sons are hunters, Eric is a hunter and I would say he puts it on a par with golf, if not ahead of golf.My other son, Don, is a hunter. They’re great marksman, great shots, they love it. I em, like golf. I don’t do that.”
2. Cyrus Said She’s Serious About Leaving the Country if Trump Becomes President
While Cyrus knows a thing or two about international travel, the last part of her above-mentioned tweet expresses her take on how Trump truthfully feels about the American people.
“We’re all just f-ing jam between his rich ass toes! Honestly f— this s— I am moving if this is my president! I don’t say things that I don’t mean!”
In response to Trump’s no. 1 Republican race leaderboard spot, Cyrus also tweeted the following:
“gonna vom / move out da country #aintapartyindausaanymo”
Cyrus was born and raised in Franklin, Tennessee but now lives in Los Angeles. According to Trulia, she just purchased a 6,500 square-foot property next door to the Kardashian-Wests in March 2015. She bought the 5 1/2 acre home — located in Hidden Hills — for $5 million.
3. Trump Tweeted Cyrus Words of Encouragement After Her Split With Liam Hemsworth
On September 19, 2013 Trump offered Cyrus some words of encouragement — shown below — after she split with actor Liam Hemsworth.
The Donald’s seemingly random tweet caught a slew of his followers off-guard. Here are a few of their responses:
@mwiddoes wrote posted that it was “the weirdest tweet of all time.”
@MartinMorComedy wrote that The Donald was “trying to groom” Cyrus.
@ocularnervosa posted that Cyrus was “a little too young” for Trump.
4. Trump Told Cyrus He Was a Fan of Her Twerking
On August 25, 2013, Cyrus — above in Hollywood Life‘s event coverage — twerked against Robin Thicke‘s crotch while performing his song, “Blurred Lines” during the 2013 MTV Video Music Awards. The controversial moment — featuring Cyrus in her bra and underwear — received several negative reactions.
However, Trump felt differently and commended the singer on her bold move, which Thicke denied knowing about ahead of time. On August 28, 2015, Cyrus was staying at a Trump Hotel when Trump phoned her to say he loved her twerking, reported Daily Mail.
“I was staying at the Trump Hotel and Donald Trump literally called and said, basically, ‘I know everyone’s talking about it, but I loved it.”
5. Cyrus Criticized Indiana Governor Mike Pence for Signing the Religious Restoration Act
Trump isn’t the only politician that Cyrus has slammed. In 2015, she backed her brother Braison Cyrus, who opposed Indiana Governor Mike Pence‘s religious freedom bill, The Religious Restoration Act. He wrote the following:
“This is Indiana Senator, Mike Pence. He is currently trying to pass a law in Indiana to allow businesses to discriminate against gays under the Religious Freedom Restoration Act. This is wrong in so many ways. Tweet him and tell him he’s an asshole @govpenceIN.”
In support of Braison’s pro-LGBT stance, Cyrus — urging heterosexual males to stand up for equality — posted the following:
“You’re an asshole @govpenceIN. The only place that has more idiots than Instagram in politics@braisoncwukong thank you for standing up for what is right! We need more strong heterosexual men fighting for equality in both men and women! Why are the macho afraid to love muchoooo?!?
