UPDATE: Our winner prediction was correct. CONGRATULATIONS to Trent Harmon. Click here for the rundown of tonight’s big finale.

Tonight is the series finale of American Idol, which means the 2016 winner will be crowned as the bookend to Kelly Clarkson. The two finalists are each from Mississippi and they are both individually talented. La’Porsha Renae is a single mother who hopes to raise awareness for domestic abuse victims, while Trent Harmon is sweet farm boy from a small town. While Renae’s new single “Battles” is emblematic of her personal struggles, Harmon’s song “Falling” is a melody co-written by judge Keith Urban. Both Renae and Harmon are each deserving of the title, so no matter what happens, the series will end on a definite high. On last night’s show, judge Keith Urban said that this “is going to be the closest race in Idol history.”

So, who will win tonight? Both contestants have been fan favorites, but La’Porsha Renae has found herself in the bottom two before while Harmon has not. In addition, we took a poll among our readers and, though it is very close, OUR readers chose Trent Harmon as the winner-to-be. Check out our poll below.
