Marvel’s Jessica Jones: Season 1 Streaming Marvel has faltered with its female superheroes on the big screen (still waiting for a Black Widow solo movie over here), but the women have fared much better on the small screen. Jessica Jones gave the studio its first female-led superhero project, starring Krysten Ritter as a former superhero turned private eye. She possesses superhuman strength and limited flight capabilities, but suffers from PTSD after she escaped the mind-controlling Kilgrave (David Tennant). (SPOILER ALERT) Despite killing her former captor, Jessica will continue to suffer from the trauma. “[Kilgrave] was her reason for getting up at 3 o’clock in the afternoon,” Ritter joked at the Vulture Festival panel on May 21. “She spends most of the show trying to get him into prison. She doesn’t want to kill him, but that becomes her only choice. I don’t think all that trauma and PTSD goes away now that she kills him.”
Netflix renewed the show for a second season in January, and Ritter will shoot that back-to-back with The Defenders mini-series, she confirmed to Digital Spy (via CBR) in May. "They'll be back-to-back. I don't know if they'll overlap a little bit," Ritter said. "It's about to be a serious undertaking. I'm starting my physical training - lots of weight training and boxing." As for season two, she’s looking forward to exploring more of Jessica’s relationship with her neighbor Malcolm (Eka Darville). “An in for me in playing Jessica was her relationship with Malcolm,” she said at the panel. “I’m excited to see what this one [showrunner Melissa Rosenberg] comes up with moving forward.” (Photo credit: Netflix)
