Tyson Beckford and DJ Ruckus got in a nasty fight on Thursday night outside the Up & Down club in New York City, according to TMZ. Police were called to the scene but the former friends had scattered before the cops arrived.
So what caused the scuffle that nearly landed the model-actor and the DJ in jail? Shanina Shaika, 25. The Australian model previously dated Beckford and is now engaged to Ruckus.
Here’s what you need to know.
1. Beckford Challenged Ruckus to ‘Take It Out in the Street
Ruckus and Beckford were both partying at the Up & Down nightclub, located in Manhattan’s Meatpacking District, on Thursday night before the fight went down. When the famed DJ saw Beckford, he flipped him off, according to TMZ. Beckford then walked over to his table and said if they had “beef” then they should “take it out in the street.”
Ruckus (born Gregory Andrews), 32, and Beckford, 45, had shared a friendship before things got complicated by their relationships with the Australian model Shanina Shaik. She split from Beckford last year, but they remained friendly, which Ruckus didn’t appreciate after he started dating her.
2. The Fight Was Violent but No One Was Arrested
Ruckus eventually followed Beckford out to the street and the two quickly came to blows. At one point during the fight, Beckford was on top of Ruckus, pummeling him, TMZ reported. A friend of the DJ’s then started punching Beckford in the head. Ruckus also punched Beckford in the groin while Beckford retaliated by kneeing Ruckus in his.
A doorman called the police, but the fight had broken up by the time police arrived. No one was arrested.
A source told Page Six:
They had all been out at Up & Down and some words were exchanged in the club. Then Beckford followed Ruckus outside, and a scuffle ensued on the street. Both suffered only minor cuts and bruises, the police were called, but no arrests were made.
3. Ruckus and Beckford Were Fighting Over Shanina Shaik
Beckford met Shaik on the set of Make Me a Supermodel, the Australian edition, in 2008, according to Page Six. He was the host, judge and mentor on the show based on the British TV series of the same name and she was a contestant. They shared an on-and-off-again relationship between 2008 and spring 2015, when they broke up.
Shortly after their break up, Shaik began dating his pal Ruckus, possibly as early as March 2015, according to the Daily Mail. They took their relationship public in June. She told Daily Mail Australia that they met in 2014 through “mutual friends.”
I have actually been a fan of his talent for a while now, before we even started dating. Not a groupie – just a fan. Ruckus and I met through mutual friends last year, we were acquaintances.
4. Ruckus Proposed to Shaik in December
Ruckus has a busy schedule as an international DJ, performing nearly 180 shows per year including his residency at the Las Vegas night club, Hakkasan. He found time to slip away to the Bahamas to spend time with Shaik and her mother, Kim Shaik, over the holidays when he popped the big question to his girlfriend.
The family vacationed at a private beach owned by his cousin, Lenny Kravitz, and Ruckus offered Shaik two diamond rings by Lorraine Schwartz to choose from delivered by family friend Denzel Washington and his wife Pauletta, according to Us Weekly. The engaged couple celebrated with her mother, cousins Lenny and Zoe Kravitz, and Zoe’s boyfriend Tim Shadow.
Ruckus and Shaik jetted off to Dubai for the New Year. The DJ performed Jean-Georges at the Four Seasons Resort.
5. Chris Brown Called Out Beckford Last Year For Snapping a Photo With Ex Karrueche Tran
Chris Brown may have overreacted when he saw his ex-girlfriend Karrauche Tran snapped a selfie with Beckford while hanging out in Las Vegas in May 2015. He threatened Beckford in a series of tweets (soon after deleted). Brown’s tweets read (via VH1):
U wanna keep walking them runways. I need ta legs for that. Keep playing like I ain’t wit the bulls–t… Be in Vegas soon. Keep playing ima f–k ya baby momma and then whoop yo child like he mine.
A couple days later, Brown apologized to Beckford via Twitter.
