When does Fear the Walking Dead return? (Richard Foreman, Jr/AMC)

Tonight is the mid-season finale of season 2 of Fear the Walking Dead, titled “Shiva.” The show has certainly been picking up its pace the last few episodes, making up for a slower start to the second season. With Chris looking like he’s going crazy and a breakdown happening between Travis and Madison, fans are wondering if one of the main characters won’t be making it out alive by the time the episode ends. We’re also wondering if those walkers being kept “safe” might be killed a la Shane style. And if so, who will do it?

But the biggest question on fans’ minds is when the show is going to return. Considering season 1 was only six episodes, we don’t have a lot of history to rely on to figure it out.

Here’s what we know so far.

The show’s mid-season finale is tonight. Ten months ago, AMC announced that season 2 would consist of 15 episodes. Tonight is episode 7, so we have eight more episodes to go.

At the time of publication, AMC had not announced a specific date for when the second half of season 2 will return. But consider how AMC has staggered the show in the past, it likely won’t air at the same time that The Walking Dead is airing. If The Walking Dead sticks with its past schedule, the next season will be starting sometime in mid to late October. In fact, some sites have rumored the start date might be a little earlier this year,  on October 9. We’re not sure how accurate this rumor is, since it’s earlier than typical for the show.

Some fans have said on Reddit that their TV apps are reporting Fear the Walking Dead‘s return as being on August 14. An August return would allow Fear the Walking Dead to complete its season before The Walking Dead returns. If The Walking Dead really does come back on October 9, an August 14 return for Fear the Walking Dead would give the show enough time to air all its episodes first. We’ll keep this article updates as we receive more informatino.
