Christina Grimmie, 22, was a social media sensation who rose to stardom on The Voice, finishing in the top 3 on Adam Levine’s team. According to CNN, last night in Orlando, Grimmie was giving a concert and was signing autographs after the show when a gunman, armed with two guns, opened fire on her around 10:45 p.m. ET. When the gunman shot Grimmie, Grimmie’s brother Mark, tackled him. During the scuffle, the gunman shot himself and died. Grimmie had been performing at The Plaza Live theater Friday night when the shooter approached her. The band Before You Exit was performing as well as they were on tour with Grimmie. Below is a photo of the band.
The Mirror reported that police stated Grimmie is thought to have been shot twice in the head by the shooter. This is truly a tragic loss for a rising star like Grimmie and her former Voice coach, Levine, is truly saddened, posting the below image on his Instagram.
In the above photo, Levine wrote this message as a caption when news of the shooting broke:
I’m sad, shocked and confused. We love you so much Grimmie. We are all praying hard that you can pull through this…this just isn’t fair. She was shot at her show in Orlando and, unfortunately, didn’t survive the gun shot wounds. We ask at this time that you respect the privacy of her family and friends in their time of mourning. If you’d like to give back to Christina’s family in her memory, please consider donating to the families GoFundMe page in their time of need.
Unfortunately, Grimmie was not able to pull through. Below is an Instagram pic of Grimmie with her heroic brother and parents.
A spokesperson for Grimmie has released the following statement:
It is with a heavy heart that we can confirm that Christina has passed and went home to be with the Lord.
